Take a shot every time Markstrom says “ya know”
Anyone have a time stamp of when the interview starts?
Update – just finished the interview and I LOOOOVE this dudes personality!!
For anyone (like me) who doesn’t like Biz and wishes Buoy would clock him one, I watched and have put some highlights together down below:
* Markstrom and Whitney know each other from the San Antonio Rampage and they used to bet on things (team meals/golf/cards) when they were there together, not hockey obviously.
* JM got different messaging from different people. Frustrating for him during the whole ordeal last season. Flames kept him away from media for a couple of weeks.
* wears his heart on his sleeve
* Trade to Vancouver was the best thing to happen to Markstrom in terms of becoming a complete goalie. Talked about everything he learned and who he learned from in Vancouver and how they helped him build good habits and thanks them for his early success.
* Talks about when he was put on waivers and no one picked him up « so nobody wants me for free so this an eye opener here this is not good. »
* Talks about importance of having a system as a goalie to fall back on when you’re not feeling at your best. Need a foundation in your game to fall back on. Goalies have their own structures and systems outside of the team systems. How he didn’t have a plan before, but he developed one.
* « Everything came really easy in Sweden » – JM – about his time playing there how he thought he was on the top of the world making $2K a month playing goalie and living with his parents and driving a Civic
* loves soccer, comes from a soccer family. **Joked about how he picked goalie because he had size twelve feet as a kid and wasn’t as tall as he is now and in order to hide his humungous feet he decided to don the goalie pads.**
* he has A LOT of stories, its almost worth watching just for his stories. He talked about the rollercoaster that was his draft. fire alarm going off at 3AM.
* **tells this amazing story about getting left on the bus cause he was sleeping in a bunk behind some curtains ending up in a Greyhound parking depot on Sunday everythings closed and he needs to climb a barbed wire fence to get out and calls a taxi to get to the game on time**
* talks about Finnish goalies v Swedish goalies and how it comes in waves: US/Canada then Finns then Swedes then Russians and now its back to Finnish goalies being at the forefront. shouts out the Swedish goalie from Minnesota.
* talked about a goalie fight he won but how its not on his bucket list right now. Whit and Biz talk about how Markstrom should take on Rempe. « we got guys on the team who are here for that »
* has met Keefe at the rink and spoken to him. thinks Bratter will give him the toughest shot in practice, but hasnt seen Jack and some of the others yet
* ***NAMED HIS SON AFTER A FAMOUS SWEDISH BANK ROBBER***
* **talks about importance of chemistry with the D and the goalie: « Ill ask Luke what he wants and just get in line and do what he wants »**
* praises Quinn Hughes as well, talks about Jim Hughes telling him Luke is the best out of all the three.
* Pasha asks about Jack taking shots off goalie helmets etc, has a really fun good natured response about it.
* ends it by talking about Johnny Gaudreau.
TLDR: I want him to be the Amanda Stein interview at Sweep the Deck. I love him already. He’s so funny. SO funny. Such a vibrant and great personality. I’m so endeared.
