Hughes wasn’t reassured enough by Staois

  2. OPsyduck

I’m really surprised by all that. I hope they come out strong in the opener, otherwise people will critic his choice.

  3. bloodrider1914

Well, when the Sens goon squad is playing, this is a fair play

  4. Star-Prince

Good call Marty! I watched episode 3 of The Rebuild last night and had nightmares about it.

  5. Hockey9711

Damn. I’m going to this game. Was hoping to see them

    The full quote for context:

    > “Ideally, I’d like to have to have my complete lineup but with everything that has happened this pre-season, not just with us but throughout the league, I don’t want to take a chance (by playing my 1st line tonight).”

  7. Yep, took out all our top players, good call. I wouldn’t even be mad if no team showed up and we forfeited the game. Why bother? Ottawa starts the beef, and in response calls up all their AHL goons. Again, why bother for a pre-season game?

Good choice. Love having a coach with an ounce of common sense for a change.

Can wait for the game! A lot of « the code » incoming!

    Xhekaj brothers tonight please!!!!!

  12. Speedbump_NZ

    Makes sense.

Kind tired of Leafs and Sens goon squads cheapshotting our players all the time with no repercussions.

  14. FlyingVMoth

Next season all preseason will be premium game

  15. IMO they shouldn’t be playing any teams from their division during preseason. would avoid rivalries and cheap shots.

  16. JediduNord

Normalement, les équipes reposent leurs joueurs…ici le ch les protègent. Weak move imo

  17. Icehawksfh

This doesn’t make sense. This subreddit told me because Xhekaj played a physical presence that they’d be too scared to go after the stars.

I do think it helps protect, don’t get me wrong, but it’s been absolutely escalating these past few games.

  18. realm_fury

First line should be Florian, Arber and Pezz. Just to set the tone.

  19. scrubadam

Good. No need to risk some AHL goon on his last legs taking out our top players. We already lost 2 guys this pre season. Send out the scrubs until the real thing against the leafs.

  20. Grouchy-Bug5223

Thank god lol .. if it was me I’d only be playing Goons at all future preseason games..

  21. EXTRAVAGANT_COMMENT

    sean william scott first line

  22. BackgroundMiserable5

Goons vs goons would be fine…2 Xhekaj’s, Pezz. Tuch, Anderson, Mailloux etc…let em go at it.

  23. RetekTheGreat

I’m more than fine with the decision but really it makes you think…what’s even the point of pre season at all if you can’t (well you can but at a huge risk with little to no upside) play your full line-up without the fear of losing your big players for absolutely nothing?

  24. Habs_Apostle

When a team cannot play their regular roster for fear of the opposing team taking liberties with their best players, there is something seriously wrong. This is as close as you can get to a protest (refusing to play) from a team. The NHL needs to take a close look and fix this.

  25. elsiphono

Habs has zero trust in the NHL to control the game (via good reffing). Good call, the NHL have shown to be totally incapable of controlling a game or protecting players during pre-season.
