I don't think sharks should continue to sell. They have a great prospect core. Stop the rebuild now before you dig a hole you can't get out of
Thanks for doing this! After a few years in the wilderness, it’s really exciting to be a Sharks’ fan again. Mike Grier has done a wonderful job and it’s going to be onward and upward!
I think celi can totally be better than bedard but at the same time bedard is going thru a sophomore slump and im sure he will recover. Im personally pulling for celi.
He scored again today!
Celebrini and Smith both had a goal and an assist today AND are both on three game point streaks. Looooving this.
First, I don't see Granlund or other veteran forwards being moved in this case. Granlund has been the best & most consistent player for the Sharks this season through 25 games, and I don't think that Columbus is really interested in getting back someone in their early/mid 30's for a high value 20 year old defensive prospect. I think moving a guy like Mukhamadullin packaged with a guy that's struggled to find a spot with the big club like Bordeleau and maybe the 2nd we got from Detroit could be enough to get a deal done with Columbus. Because that's 2 good value prospects plus a good value pick in this coming draft for a guy you couldn't develop but plays a premium role in an NHL lineup. And because Mukhamadullin was a late 1st round pick himself, as well as Bordeleau being an early 2nd rounder, they represent good asset management & good return for Jiricek for the Jackets new GM Waddell.
Bordeleau, Gushin, and our 2nd this year for Jiricek
No way I give up a first. We are going to finish b10 at least for this year and next year
Sharks hit the jackpot winning the celebrini draft , dodge a bullet missing on bedard
Sam Dickinson is developing nicely for the Sharks
Bordeleau, Mukuhmadullin, and a Second for Jiricek! Sharks are stacked on centers and left d men.
David Jiricek was given every chance to make the team this year by the GM and coach.
The offseason goal was to improve his skating. He did not.
He showed up to camp without any improvements. A poor choice.
The Sharks should NOT trade for DJ, because the price would be too high.
A high 3rd would be an insult to CBJ, but about all I think the market should offer.
CBJ should work it out with DJ and try to convince him to improve his skating, and give him another shot next year.
Sharks have Mukh, Dick, Cags, and others who are much better skaters, while still in the AHL or lower. None of them are worth trading away for someone who lacks the motivation to improve.
Great show!
i dont think its in the sharks best interest to trade for jiricek. the sharks have a lot of young prospects that arent even in the nhl yet. adding another young prospect may end up being a lateral move if they trade draft picks or prospects for another prospect. it seems like a trade for the sake of making a trade
Look I’m super happy for Celebrini but I’m sure he will go through a slump and then everyone will say he’s washed or a bust or something along those lines – for one the league and goaltenders and systems will always adapt to players. So it’s not that Bedard is a terrible player, and neither is Celebrini when he hits his slump. Give the kids time to grow.
From a cynical Sharks fan all they way back from 1999
I’d say Celebrini competes with Bedard as far as offensive skill goes, but I think Celebrini is better defensively. I think he’s physically stronger than Bedard too, I’ve seen him throw a couple of guys around already. Bedard is amazing and might produce more goals overall but I think Celebrini will have a bigger impact on his team.
Thomas bordeleau and a 2cd for jericek.
Definitely not worth a 1st round pick let’s not get crazy!
Jiricek does have risk since he hasn't developed so far. He could be like the Detroit 1st Round 6th pick and a bust. Sorry, that he was the Columbus 1st Round pick. Sharks should give up a 2nd Round Pick and maybe Guschin or Bordleau. Possibly add a future consideration if Jiricek hits some measurable milestones with the Sharks.
Celebrini is very competitive. He does not like it when he misses a goal, pass or loses a puck battle. Bedard looks like he lays back sometimes. Celebrini gets pissed when the Sharks lose. Look at how he answers the press. He is just more polished at just 18 years old. He has his dad and the Golden State Warriors as mentors growing up. Celebrini is a sponge. He must be learning a lot from living with Joe Thorton. How to he a professional but have fun too.
We need another Brent Burns and a pair of goalies
This is giving me ptsd… last time we relied on some magical defenseman we wasted 17 mil on the garbage ass Karlsson who single handedly lost us the playoffs for his first and only playoff appearance in a sharks jersey.
No Trades yet! I want to see where this team is at the end of December. Right now the team is fighting back from a 0-7-2 start to the season. The Sharks are 8-6-3= 19 of 34 points since the dreaded start. I know the team has about a 3% chance of making the playoffs, but in 2018/19 the team that beat the Sharks in the Western Conference Finals was St. Louis. At 26 games the blues were 9-13-4 = 22 points. The Sharks have 3 good lines right now working and the 4th line has good energy. Even when the Sharks were winning year after year, they never had 3 lines working. So yeah, 6 games on the Road right now, which they are just 2-7-4. I think it would be dumb to trade away Granlund, Walman, Wennberg, Grundstrum,Toffoli, Kunin, Vanecek, or Blackwood. As for Macklin, well he's 18, and his play at home is 8 gm, 8 goals, 3 assist, +1. On the road, well, 6 gm, 0 goals, 2 assists, -5.. Let's give the kid a half season before crowning him with the Calder….
Great video!
One of the big reasons Toffoli signed with the Sharks is because his in-laws live relatively close. This is year 1 of his 4 year deal.
After watching his first few preseason and reg games, I started talking about how I wouldn’t trade him for Bedard and possibly not any other player if starting a franchise from scratch today. Makar possibly the exception or maybe Hughes. He is Bergeron defensively with Kane’s offense.
One thing I've noticed about Celebrini is how confident he is with the puck. You don't lead the league in controlled entries by dishing the the puck off to someone else after 2 seconds of having it in your possession. He has a great 200ft game; great on the back check and he wins so many board battles. I hope he continues to develop and becomes the star people think he can be.
Jiricek to SJ would probably revitalize him. Look just how good Liljegren has looked in SJ. He feels like he's actually playing up to his potential.
I am torn on the Jiricek situation. I think adding him would be a really good move but I think we might end up overpaying for him if we do get him. Of the 1st round picks I would be ok with giving up, it would be this years. I think our 2026 pick is untouchable considering we will have a solid chance at landing Mckenna. I would be ok with moving a current roster player for a 1st and then flipping that first (and some prospects) for Jiricek but the devil will be in the details.
It is getting much fun to watch Sharks games these days, as Macklin Celebrini drives the team. As many people mentioned, his strength with puck battle and defensive play are pretty clear through the eye tests while his offense is also one of the best in the team. He is making his line mates and the team better and it feels like the chemistry is being developed from game to game. I think the comparison with Bedard is too early, so we will see it at the end of the season.
One thing that is becoming obvious with Mack, Will Smith and some of the young guys is that other teams are having more respect for their ability and it creates space for them. The past few years there just wasn’t really any players that commanded that on the team so you would just see teams play high pressure all over the ice on the sharks because they were seeing time and time again they wouldn’t get burned for it and could just take the game over. They are now clearly seeing that isn’t the case anymore and the that mixed with reps and development you are finally starting to see this team offensively start controlling play and getting sustained offensive zone time.
Imagine his point total if he actually had decent linemates and not fourth liners on his wing for most of the season.
One of the most impressive things to me about Celebrini is that he's been a full 200 foot player and when he's present in the lineup the entire team seems to play better. He's adjusted so well to the league it's astounding. Hard to say if he'll end up "better" than Bedard, I think they have slightly different skillsets. I do see him taking the sharks on some deep playoff runs in the future though. This rebuild is coming together quite nicely, you always worry that it could end up like Buffalo and miss the playoffs for 13 years. I think Mike Grier has done an excellent job of building a team culture & providing hard working vets to get the young guys going.
The Wild overpayed so heavily for an unproven defensive prospect. Glad the Sharks didn't do that.
Sharks are stacked with goalies!
Celebrini…good at hockey? You don't say.
And Jiricek was never going to come to the Sharks. Grier's too smart. Ask yourself why a perennial bottom feeder like Columbus is so anxious to get rid of such an "elite" defenseman prospect and why he's been a healthy scratch for all but 6 games. What does a team that sees him play and practice every single day for 3 seasons see that the rest of us who are just watching tape on him isn't seeing.
I really hope Bedard bounces back, I want SJ and CHI to have the dynamic like PIT and WAS for the next two decades
if we are gonna flip some of our defenders, we need to get rid of thrun and rutta and or liljegran
