This title is pretty dramatic honestly. Not signing a 34 year old player who we’re just hoping is going to be their 2012 selves again, and has not played on a different team before, is not sabotaging the Red Wings. Title makes it seem like not signing Stamkos has set the rebuild back years lol.

I do agree the GM should have autonomy to do what they feel they need to do, but I must say I'm happy they didn't get stuck with Stamkos for four years at his age. They only two free agent signings he has done that I really like are Kane and Debrincat, the others have been underwhelming at best.

Anyone pointing fingers at an owner who is spending up to the cap might be looking in the wrong places. Thank goodness we didn't end up with Stamkos. It would have been another in the long line of terrible contracts – Copp, Compher, Tarasenko, Holl… The list goes on. How is it different from Holland?

Maybe Illitch should be the President and GM of the team. Sounds like he has to keep little Stevie from making bad decisions and gave him a little spanking. Wanting to give Stamkos 4 years at 8 million per year is ridiculous. Yzerman has maxed out the cap with Illitches money and the team is a dumpster fire. This seems like a bad attempt to take the heat off Yzerman.
This whole story is complete BS designed to anger morons. FACT IS (I know facts matter little to most people) the Red Wings were up against the cap still having to sign Seider and Raymond. Wings are at the salary cap – in other words, ILITCH HAS SPENT EVERY PENNY HE CAN UNDER THE RULES! Different story if they were under the cap, but they are not. Choices between different players is 100% on the Yzerman clownshow-don't get it twisted. Well, the Tigers made playoffs, and they will be even better this coming season, and they have a good future, so I'm not worried about the Tigers. The Red Wings rebuild will come to an end by the 2027 season, and Stamkos has been struggling in Nashville

I think if we would have had 2 Stanley Cup veteran players like Kane and Stamkos plus our young talent it would have been a very dangerous team. Plus what better guys for the young players to learn from ? Maybe, they could finally kiss and make up with Federov and throw him behind the bench as a coach. He had some good years coaching in Russia. He would also draw players. I think Stamkos would have been motivated to play for Stevie Y again.
