1. Finally! This team finally put a strong all around 60 minutes together. Putting pucks on the net, a strong tenacious forecheck, an aggressive PK, strong goaltending. Not a perfect game, but the team that showed up tonight looks a lot more like the team I expected to see this season. Nice to see Berger continuing to score. Motte actually looked great playing with Larkin and Raymond. Al Jo needs to be in the lineup more and I thought him and Gus looked decent as a pair. This team just finally looked like they gave a s**t. Gotta keep playing like this now. LGRW

  2. I only got to see the last 10-12 mins, but it didn’t look like I missed much. But the Islanders played like we do: sitting back and trying to not lose.

  3. Who would’ve thought making lines more offensively creative would produce goals… Also, the players seem more engaged and happier

  4. I haven't looked at the advanced stats, but I was at this game and I have to say it certainly didn't feel in the moment like they were necessarily "the better team". There were a LOT of dull, ill-advised passes, plenty of turnovers, and the powerplay essentially turned this into a 54 minute game. I know the Isles love to play, like you said last episode Brian, Low-Event hockey, but for much of the first 45 minutes or so it appeared to me (and the definitely not obnoxious guy behind me booing on and off) that this team was uncoordinated and unconfident of their own accord. I was preparing myself for a 1-0 final score until the stick snapped and all of a sudden Sorokin showed his mortality. There were, of course, a significant number of occasions where the wings looked like they could score, and they were very disciplined tonight (that trip on Fischer was a terribly weak call from the angle I got) but there was a lot of one and done offense or dump and chase failure mixed in there as well. If I was to give a conclusion, I would say it wasn't a deserved win, but wasn't a lucky/rabbit out of a hat win either. They played just well enough to earn this win.

  5. Glad to hear the comments about the 2nd line – Kasper/Kane/Cat consistently generated scoring chances last night. They weren't rewarded with a goal but they consistently carried the play when they were on ice.

  6. Mott creates room. He's like a Justin Abdelkader with Datsyuk in 2008/09. He creates room on the ice.

  7. Kane said one of the things he liked about Kasper was that he could drive the middle with speed. There were a few plays that Kane made last night night that led to scoring chances that came from exactly that, Marco drove the middle and forced the defenseman low and opened that lane for Kane to hit Debrincat with a nice pass.

  8. One thing I will say that i liked about Motte on the first line, he went to the freaking net, something nobody else who's been put in that spot has done.

  9. I know no one wants to give Chiarot and Petry any flowers, but I thought this was their best game of the year. Chiarot especially was pushing play in the OZ.

  10. Red wings suck to watch nowadays. Do you ever see a good check no because the wings are pussified

  11. Yay! We won a game! Should I buy my 2024-2025 Detroit Red Wings Commemorative Stanley Cup Bobblehead now? Or make reservations for the Jack Adams Award Dinner with Derek Lalonde? I hate to get in everyone's kitchen with a win, but the Islanders are not a team we should match ourselves against. Sorokin was a brick wall and it felt great Berggie was able to break him, and anytime Larks can feed a game winner but especially Razor, it makes the me glow with excitement. Lyon was a cold puck magnet and he saved the game. But sorry, it's a Pink Cloud. The feeling will fade, we still have to win at least 12 of the next 20 games. If we beat a struggling but re-energized Bruins Saturday, the Isles again Monday, but then we hit the harder bouts, Canucks, Sabers, Flyers, Blues, with Jersey, Boston and Washington sprinkled in. The Flames should be an easy win, but we thought that going into Anaheim. Give me 6 wins in the next 7 games, and I'll stop calling for Newsie's Self-Chuck. It was a great game to watch, frustrating but the reward was worth it. Maybe we can take this momentum into the Bruins game, and walk all over Roy and his "two Stanley Cup rings in his ears".

  12. I think the Wings won despite Lalonde's bizarre line combinations, not because of them. Stop taking Larks, Rayzor, and Cat away from each other. Berggren has top 6 skills. Motte is not a first line player, he just managed to not fall flat on his face in 5 minutes of top line play. Johansson deserves more ice time, put him next to Chiarot. And Rasmussen, Copp and Fischer is not a shutdown line.

  13. I'm just glad to hear kane confirm what was obvious to me, he and debrincat need a net driver, doesn't matter if it's a guy who can score, he just needs to be able to drive center lane to create room for him and to play postionally sound in the d zone, Kasper is that guy and it's a good thing because the other thing that was obvious to me but apparently no one else is that Raymond and larkin are better than larkin and debrincat. Needs to stay that way because debrincat and kane are floaters and larkin needs someone else who can get in the corners besides himself to be successful otherwise he's gonna get injured again. And for all the Raymond haters," suck it", I told you he's more valuable than kane, he's more valuable than debrincat and he's right up there in value with larkin if you keep them together. I'm not convinced motte is that Homer guy who can muck and provide the puck for those two but it's worked for one game. I'll also say that if danielson keeps shining then he needs to be brought up, and they can sit anyone besides kasper Raymond larkin cat kane and berger to play him, hecknid start him on a line with larkin and Raymond and see what happens, if you don't know you're sleeping on nate, he's at that stage, 5 pts last 5 games, and some serious high level highlights after only 17 games in the ahl. They waited too long on a lot of other prospects, they need to stop waiting on this kid.

  14. Swap Motte and Burgers. He's earned the promotion, and Motte on the top line makes no sense. He's a bottom six grinder. He did have a great game though

  15. Nice save there Scotty! I really thought you two were going to forget to mention Lyon. He did play well.

  16. Kane, Berrgren, Cat, Tarasenko, can all play defense. Motte and Rasmussen even have some offense to their game.

Its Copp and Compher that cant play offense OR defense well.

Blame Yzerman for the contracts. Blame Lalonde for the usage. They're buddies that are bad for each other.

  17. Arizona threw out Doaner's retirement banner?

No wonder Arizona isn't a team anymore. That's pretty terrible karma.

  18. That win only matters if the team can rally around it and string a few wins together to get out of the basement.

  19. The line chemistry is forming, still need to clean up the back end and raise the SOGs. Think shot first
