I don't believe Talbot is hurt. More like he's sick of playing his heart out on a terrible team.
It's going to take a few years to straighten out my Red Wings. The coach, if he doesn't get fired, his contract is up once this season ends. As far as the veterans go, there's a few that won't be resigned after this season. That'll open roster space for a few more rookies. The Red Wings will not make the playoffs next year (2025/2026 season). Once that season is over, all of those bad contracts will expire. This will usher in the "Yzerplan 2.0". I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the 2.0 version. I absolutely hate that it's taken this long. Unfortunately I'm not in control of it.
Detroit’s core is Raymond, Cossa, ASP and Seider. Everyone older than those players should be shipped out, included Larkin and Cat. Sell early this season and get a top three pick. Someone steal Yzerman’s phone so he doesn’t sign any other bums in FA over the summer and be bad next year too. Hope for some draft lottery luck and get McKennna in 2026.
That’s the path. Not trying to plug holes in free agency. This team is somehow at the cap limit, yet terrible at the same time. And Yzerman has really never used that cap space to take bad deals from other teams for assets, instead he just burns his own space on guys like Chiarot and Holl.
If the Sabres make a move , they really have to get it right this time. They may be better off sucking one or two more years

The Red Wings need a Brendan Shanahan-type player for the same infusion of grit and determination he brought to that great team that was captained by Yzerman. Larkin is a great leader but something is missing on this team. I think Dylan will retire as a Red Wing if he chooses.

Detroit simply needs a number 1 centre who can win faceoffs…When you look at every team at the bottom of the league they are using second-line centres as a number 1 center and it doesn't work. Without that strength down the middle you can't expect the wingers to fill the net. Bump Larkin to number 2 centre and then get some more tenacity in their lineup….The also need to give Veleno the ball and let him run with it. They are too careful with him
