Lalonde was talking about the break. Guy is nothing but excuses. It never ends. What a terrible season and end of last season. Should have gotten a new coach last season. Need a motivator in here pronto – Turk would be perfect. Former red wing and he would demand a high level of play. The rumors were Berube at the end of last season and Toronto of course hired him. It was clear he lost the room last year and that has continued into this year. With that being said the roster construction is also poor. It's both the style of play from a leadership perspective from the head coach and letting too many offensive players go: Walman, Sprong, Fabbri, Hronek. Team has no life or juice. It's absolutely pathetic. Yzerman and Lalonde should both be fired because it's his roster he constructed and his coach. Yzerman is ultimately responsible. It hasn't worked. Time to start anew with new leadership and vision. Toronto got a new GM and hired a new coach and they're playing a more aggressive style now that I think will bode well for them in the postseason.

I think we were trying to target names in FA and we swung and missed and Stevie is stuck holding the bag that he didn't offer a couple ufas. This broken semblance of a team is the result.

At this point there's no coach he shouldn't fire and no player he shouldn't trade the second the roster freeze is over. The lack of pride is staggering.
They really need someone with a Dan Campbell or Scotty Bowman mentality to come in and change the culture. They have no fire right now and that directly reflects on the coaches and the GM. If Yzerman can't solve it at this point then maybe he needs to step down and resign instead of being fired. It's not that the team isn't talented in it's makeup it is that the team just doesn't seem to be motivated to win right now. Something must change because after last year it did seem like we were almost there but then all four tires blew out on the band wagon.

as far as lineups i am no longer sure what the fix is bc it's clear Larkin and Raymond can't play together and that being permanently w Lucas this year has broken Larkin's spirit. the obvious would be to use Larkin Cat Kane.
but Copp Cat Kane appears to be Kane's preferred line, wild as that would have sounded a few weeks ago. but Lalonde even when he uses them refuses to use them now for full games, he keeps breaking them up midgame in desperation line shuffling. and he refuses to use them w the top d pair, basically sabotaging the line. the last time he wasn't doing this and intentionally paired them w a fresh Seider was first period of first game vs MTL, not coincidentally the last time the team was alive.

Apparent since Stevie’s horrible decisions last couple yrs that this is a flawed roster. Not one power forward. Top 6 wingers all small, same player essentially. Foolishly thinking Copp is a 2C after an outlier career yr heading into FA. Then after that was obvious, he does the exact same thing with Compher. Both bottom 6 checking centers.
Signs Talbot instead of Stolarz. The atrocious Walman deal. Deals the wrong veteran dman in Maatta. The list goes on. Debrincat gets tossed off the puck like a feather. Perimeter soft skill. And maybe Rasmussen can’t be that top center he was drafted to be, but how about a power forward? Maybe play with some grit. Just floats and it’s maddening.
