  1. Berggren and Kasper play with so much heart every game I would only hope they move up the lineup

  2. I'd like to see a few guys go, Kane who I'm sure has asked for a trade (I never wanted to resign him either). Chiarot who is grossly overpaid. Not a big fan of Veleno. I thought he was a good pick when he was drafted, but he isn't the offensive player he was in the juniors. Copp is untradeable, Petry will retire at the end of the season, and we couldn't get a bag of chips for him. I would like to see Rasmussen used differently. With his size he should be on a top line digging in the corners and getting in the goalies face. In reality Yzerman has to quit giving all these free agents bad contracts. Go with the young guys, let them get their feet wet.

  3. I'd like to see the Wings be a little more selfish. They gain the zone and immediately turn away from the net and start looking for that pass to a guy coming into the zone or across the ice, then look for a few more passes. They know the play they want to make and they can't improvise when it's not there/

  4. My faith in the Yzerplan started to slide when he signed Copp, Compher, and Chariot to pretty ridiculous contracts, and changed the chemistry of the team. Now his signings of Kane, Tarasenko and Debrincat are looking a bit ugly. Trading for Petry was a puzzling move. Then he basically gives Wolman away for next to nothing. Made little effort to keep Hronek, the ist goes on…total mess. The ownership has to be seriously wondering about Yzerman at this point. I think Woodcroft would have been a better choice. Get some fresh young blood in there, McLellan is old school recycled.

  5. I think they have the talent to play much better. They finished Red Hot at the end of last year and this team is IMHO markedly better than last year's team. Can we get in the Playoffs? It can happen but who knows? Strangers things have. Stevie knows McLellan very well and I really trust his judgement on this hiring. He knows exactly what it's like to be coached by Todd and how the players are today. It's surely a very, very informed decision. Get to it boys!

  6. Steve Y need to be fire he has not sign one good FA or trade in his stay here. They have draft good it looks like so far. But we drafted alot of same type of players all avg. We have not got guy that may even had chase to be a superstar.not he fire a coach and signs another guy that I don't see that any better the Derek. We r screwed

  7. Detroit is a team full of “meh” players. They have no offensive talent really. Raymond and Larkin are great players, but they’re not 80-100 point players. DeBrincat should be scoring WAY more goals

  8. Yzerman needs to go. The clown show he has built in 6 years is Ken holland levels of mediocre.

  9. Seider is nowhere near Norris trophy caliber. He’s a great defenseman but no way near the caliber of a Quinn Hughes, Cale Makar, etc

  10. I really like LaLonde, seems like a genuine and awesome guy. This move had to be done. I really wish him all the best in the future.

Yzerman really wanted to make this team healthier over the off-season. He gave up Fabri, who barely played at all, to Tarasanko who's already played 33 games. Maybe not the greatest move of all time, but it's fine for what it is. I still believe in the plan and I think once we start getting the young guys up like ASP, Danielson, Brandsegg-Nygård, Mazur, and whoever else. I think that's when the team takes a turn for the better.

  11. When you're one of the worst teams in the NHL you have no easy schedule lol I won suite tickets for Sunday's game I hope to see Ovie! LGRW!

  12. Derek Lalonde as a dunning-krueger self-professed 'analytics guy' hated Kane from before he even signed there and viewed him as a liability from the moment he signed – and treated him as such. Even after Kane led them in points per 60, 5v5 goals per 60, game winners last year and was a + at 5v5 on a bad 5v5 team and basically carried the team post-all star break to their hot streak, Lalonde still hated him and viewed him as a liability.

And when it came to this year Derek doubled down on that and buried Kane w no talent and a system that shackled him. Refused to use Kane's preferred offensive d-man on the power play as he'd been signed to play on. And put all resources towards Raymond at Kane's expense. This got Raymond his numbers but destroyed the team.

Kane has demonstrated this year in odd moments even in a stretch of recent games when given linemates he likes that he retains more or less full use of his powers. And given those linemates he carried the team to a couple huge wins over good opponents and turned Andrew Copp into a 1C for a few games. But Lalonde couldn't abide this even with his job on the line, so he stopped giving that line the top d pair ever to undercut it.

The team's best line all last year by a good margin was Kane Cat Larkin. It scored more than a goal more, gave up more than a goal less, per 60, than the Raymond version of that line. But the Raymond version of that line, stranding Kane, is what Lalonde went with from day 1 of camp and to start the year. And for the majority of the year.

Derek bet on the wrong horse bc he believed the negative national perception and biased analytics perception of Kane as an older player, and ignored both his own eyes and the results on the ice he saw all last season. And doing this cost Kane greatly – it cost him Team USA and historical numbers – and now it's deservedly cost Derek his job.

If McClellan wants to succeed the rest of this year, he will a) never use Kane with JT Compher as his center, and b) never use Kane wo DeBrincat. Those are Pat's 2 conditions. He prefers Larkin or Copp at center, but could probably make even Kasper work. Those are the conditions. Any coach who wants this year's team to not be a miserable unwatchable losing awful team had best maximize Kane and his line. That's where the offense is, that's where the momentum is, that's where the danger is. If you want the team to be a Lucas Raymond make a wish project thing, fine, but there are no wins in that direction.

  13. It's tough to be a Red Wings fan being so happy that they got Yzerman in the office, only to see him throw spaghetti on the wall with all these goalies he signs, Campbell and Talbot, really?

  14. The team just over performed so much last year a regression was sure to come I still think the team is a year or 2 away thanks to all the cap space Yzerman has wasted on bad vets but once those are cleared the future should be bright in Detroit likely just have to wait a couple more years which is tough after last season how close they came despite the analytics still backing that they weren't really better just more lucky

  15. This season is a wash in my book. I hope to improve this season with this change and that’s all I’m hoping. I’m just hoping for Yzerman and his team of scouts to make good decisions in the offseason with this coaching change to come back strong next year

  16. I don’t really think they successfully finished the “rebuild”

They don’t really have many promising prospects in the near pipeline. They don’t really have an exciting top line or even top 6. They’ve got a few decent guys on the blue line, but this is NOT what you’d expect after a decade long rebuild.

Look at NJ for example. We went through a long and brutal rebuild. And look at the talent we have? Hughes brothers, Bratt, Hischier, Nemec, Casey, and a whole slew of complimentary vets. When you compare the 2 “rebuilds” it’s hard to say the Red Wings built anything of value

  17. I was hoping to tank the team and get Cooper on board but you can only dream. Having an NHL experienced coach will do wonders for this team. The last two coaches were both rookie head coaches. I think we’ll end up just outside the playoffs and then make it next season.

  18. It's weird to throw out the coach when the season is already lost. St. Louis changed coaches after 19 games (7-9-3), they went 8-9-1 before Binnington, 11-0-0 when he came up, and finished off with 19-10-5. Basically, if you have a star goalie in the minors, you can recover, no coach change required.

  19. The strange thing with Stevie Y was he used to be a very shrewd GM with a tight wallet who never gave out long term contracts… Then one day he snapped and broke all his own rules. The chemistry is terrible.

  20. I think Todd McLellan will do well in Detroit. He's got a monumental task ahead of him though. Red Wings will probably surge for this next stretch of games, but unfortunately, they will fall just short of a playoff spot.

  21. I've heard you say now a couple times that Columbus is better on the road then at home and I assume it's a mistake because Columbus is 10-4-3 at home 4-11-3 on the road, it's the exact opposite. Not saying it to be rude or anything but just figured I'd correct it.

  22. Just saw Husso in Grand Rapids where he was torched for 6 goals. Should never play for the wings again.

  23. There's a difference between Holland doing nothing for this franchise toward a rebuild; and Yzerman doing his best to find the right prospects and players for the franchise. Smarter fans will know the difference. People wanna criticize the contracts but I don't see any crystal ball and winning lottery tickets.

  24. The root problem with the Wings is StevieY and he just bought himself another 3 years, minimum 🙄

  25. I think Detroit needs to hunt down whatever witch or wizrard performed a talent/skill power swap between the wings and lions and ask them what the fuck happened.

It's been terrible watching the red wings continue to do worse and worse, and it's an absolute shame to see from my childhood watching Detroit play as a kid in Detroit turn into this race for the bottom crew.

  26. You need to start using a computer for your info and stats. It would look so much better.

  27. Watch us catch a heater in February and mess up our lottery chances. This is not a cup winning team. High draft picks is what we need. Also need some these first round picks coming up to pan out.

  28. 1 month ago, you kept saying Columbus is better at home, now you keep saying they are better on the road… 😅😅

  29. If SY would have kept Walman and Gostisbehere, this season wouldn't be good, but not quite so bad.

  30. I think Lalonde was set up to fail with the current roster. Sure, he’s not got the best out of some players but a shade over 10 mil for Copp and Compher is terrible business. Those contracts have not aged well, especially Copp. The coaching change feels like a desperation move, which to an extent is warranted, but this team has a massive turning circle which unfortunately starts with dumping some of those contracts. I think Yzerman has maybe a couple more years of rolling the dice but patience has got to be wearing thin for even the most hardcore fan right now.

  31. Red Wings is currently 6th in the longest playoffs drought among 4 major leagues (and likely move up to 5th if Broncos can make it). Nothing good has happened to Wings since they cried their way to Eastern Conference.

  32. New Z sucked but look at the roster? Scotty Bowman couldn't win with this roster. Defense has two solid guys in Seider and Edvinsson, while Chiarot, Petry, Gus and Holl are all 30 plus years old and are average on their best nights. Goaltending has been awful except Cam, but he's on the backside of his career. Need Cossa and Augustine soon. Compher, Copp and Debrincat are salary cap disasters for their production. That's all I got, Stevie better keep building through the draft.

  33. I don’t think he made the move for the “coaches bump“. He signed McClellen multi year. This is not a short term fix.
