  1. “I liked our compete, they have good DNA” thanks Lalonde, that makes a lot of sense lol. Todd is so much better man. I like how Todd wants the players to just “play their game” instead of forcing a player to adopt a system or playstyle they might not blossom with. Takes pressure off of a player and gives them the feeedom to showcase why they’re a pro to begin with. Go Wings.

  2. Locker room sounds so much louder. Is that other media, or are the guys just talking to each other more?

  3. Really like Todd’s philosophy here when it comes to coaching.
He seems like a really good communicator to with this players.

Going to be interesting come in January, see how this team buries down and hopefully rack n some Ws.

  4. Night and day between the 2 coaches Todd and Lalonde. Holy cow. Lalonde could really get a bit too mechanical…. Too analytical at times.
Todd seems like a way better communicator with his players.

  5. I get what Coach is saying about the 'A'… he seems like the type of guy that works his back off without ever complaining while expecting excellence of himself because it's his duty to try to be the best… if so maybe then he thinks (rightly) that everyone at an elite level clearly ought to do the same. but to me it seems like he's keeping extenuating circumstances in mind too, so I'm interested in seeing how he adapts to adversity. however, all of that said i disagree with his position on the 'A'…. Felt on your shoulder is more than the sum of its parts…. it's a symbol, like winning a medal and yes it's meant to honor the receiver, but the vibes and spirit and spectacle are meant for the masses.

The 'A' is special. The coach is the King of the team (if he's in a good franchise), but he's the King in the classic sense… he's separated from his team (the army) by degrees through his staff (his royal court, aka courtiers, advisers, officers, etc.) Further still from the fans directly, we interact through him by way of the media. That 'A' is a closer tie to everyone; they're the sergeants, they lead and are recognized and are cheered. We the people need our stars and our heroes on this team, pomp and circumstance should never be underestimated. The team needs to have strong individuals to rally behind, it's something to work towards… But if say someone says 'no he doesn't want' it I'd say that BETTER qualifies the player!

  6. Talking about the players at the 10-minute mark is the problem with sports today and has been for a while. The old way is better. Lucky to grow up in part of the Yzerman era in the 90s.

  7. He appreciates Kaner for the all world player he is and what his experience and creativity means to the team. DL hardly ever mentioned his name…

  8. Back to loving the media videos. Not a knock on Lalonde, but McLellan is just great with his words. You can tell he has a great mind for the game, but also for the players and their relationships. You can tell he's been doing this for a LONG time. He's the type of coach a lot of these young guys are going to need to further themselves in their careers.

I love that he mentioned Burgers. I assume he learned a ton from Lalonde and the staff, but now it's almost as if McLellan wants him to play a little differently. I really hope he can find his game. Coach thinks he has some offensive upside, boy i sure hope he sees it soon. Personally i think Berggren is one of the best passers on the team, he just hasn't been able to showcase it.

  9. Petry using words like clarity and purpose says a lot about how things were up until McLellan took over

  10. Love Todd McLellan! What a breath of fresh air and the change we've needed. Kudos to Yzerman for bringing him in, though it was a long time coming.

  11. Todd is an awesome coach and has a good communication style. Really believe they will go on a run and will be in the wildcard hunt.

  12. Lalonde was a good coach but his scheme was geared for a team like the 1978 Canadiens or mid 1990s Wings who could skate with anybody, carried the play and had the talent to score at will. We'll see what they have going forward but I don't expect much better than .500 hockey without some trade help or young players coming up.

  13. Seider needs a permanent A. Otherwise there is nothing obvious optically where i’d have a guess at the other A. But it’s seem very clear to me as a close fan that Seider should have one for sure. Will be curious to see how that all shakes out with the new coach over the next year.

  14. Can't wait until Mclellan plays Johansson over Gustafsson or Petry. The adjustment Lalonde refused to make. No matter how bad those 2 were they would never get scratched. Made me lose faith in Lalonde and any hope of playoffs.

  15. Rotating assistant captain's is so stupid, I have always hated it. Leave it to Lalonde to waste time and energy overcomplicating things while making it less effective at the same time. Another reason Larkin had way too much pressure on him, McLellan saying he didn't even know who the assistant captain's were is pretty telling. Maybe give one to Patrick Kane? pretty obvious, the guy has 1300 points in the league, 3 Stanley cups, leader and role model on and off the ice. Conn Smythe, Art Ross, Hart Memorial, Ted Lindsey. They should have made him assistant from day 1, or at least the start of this season. Seider is the other obvious choice as assistant, way overdue, he obviously has excellent leadership qualities and character. He has been their best, most consistent player since he joined the team, he is just a rock out there. It is borderline disrespectful to not make these two assistants.

  16. Best thing he's done is change up the D lines, putting stronger players with weaker ones and balancing the lines is something Wings needed throughout the whole season. Not smart having a A+ pair then changing out with a C- pair. LGRW!

  17. This team SOOOOOO much needed this coach and these corrections. Todd is very open on the correction side of any player asked about. I just love this coach.

  18. The best gift I received from Christmas was Todd Mclellan! The last two games have given me so much joy and new found excitement for the new year. Thank you Stevie Y for not being afraid to can uncle Fester the day after xmas 🎄 ❤ 🔥
