McDavid one was worse because he went after the guy and cross checked Myers Bouchard one, if Bouchard didn't go at him then it's different

mcdavid was holding garland down. mcdavid should have received a penalty for holding. the refs let mcdavid get away with a hold just so that the oilers would have an advantage.

Sometimes as captain you have to have a TAKE NO PRISONERS attitude and McDavid stood his ground and sometimes you need to do rough things. Sometimes (ala Chris Pronger)
I agree with the video comments. Am an oilers fan but McD deserves a suspension. Intentional stick to head is never justified. That being said I think the refs and rulebook deserve some updating. Greco-Roman wrestling of people in last 30s of game ruins a potential last sec goal, which makes the sport exciting. Ref can watch for 3-4s to see if it's truly interference and then blow whistle and restore a few seconds to clock.
I also think the stick to Bouchard was the more egregious one. It was unprovoked other than chirping. So maybe 2 games for McD and 3 for the other. Not sure if that can be considered but it should be.
It looked to me like McDavid was holding into Garland and Garland was trying to get up! Why do the big name guys always get the benefit of the doubt?

the refs need to do their job man.. just call the holding penalty on Garlond and McDavid wont retaliate, the NHL referees suck.
Carry over penalties for anything under a minute remaining in a game. We have the technology.
Personally, I think the commentary missed a few things here. Follower of both teams.
– People seem to think Myer's was retaliating to McDavid. No, he didn't see the McDavid crosscheck.
– McDavid cross checked Garland in the side of the head in the helmet. Garland didnt seem hurt as McDavid's intention seemed to be to hit but not cause a lot of damage. His hockey IQ is the best in the league for a reason.
– Myer's cross check was meant to damage. Straight to the jaw, no mouthguard. Immediately you see the reaction by Bouchard was different.
– McDavid is clearly being targeted by the media because he's the biggest name in the league.
I loved Burrows back in the day, but if a player cross checked him then I would understand. Garland is dirty and a cheat. Plays to win. You love him on your team and hate to play him. He shows the small guys have a place in the league.

McDavid got poke checked at the blue line, realized he better take out Garland or it's a potential empty netter, so he tackles Garland, who is only too happy to spend the next 20 seconds wrestling on the ice with him.
Missed interference call on Garland when he extends the wrestling match (which McDavid initiated) too far.
McDavid gets frustrated, partly because he knows he coughed up the puck at the blue line, loses it and cross checks Garland in the head.
Suspension to follow.
Refs need to rethink how they call penalties (or don't call them) near the end of the game.

The Athletic released a poll in January of '24 in which NHL players voted on the best referee. McCauley won, receiving 53% of the votes. Kelly Sutherland finished second with just over 18%. Apparently the players themselves overwhelmingly disagree with your assessment of McCauley. Imagine getting 53% of the vote when 36 people are up for a vote.
If someone commits a penalty while leading in the last 2 minutes, the clock should reset so that its a full 2 minutes. And refs need to call penalties in the last 2 minutes!
The real question i have is What repercussions are the referees facing for allowing this to happen?
I know what would happen to me if i refused to do my job.
And another Great non call by Wes McCauley (sarcasm). He is now officially the worst ref in the league.
A few more calls, or non calls like this and he could be in the running for worst official in all pro sports.

Hronek and Holgander got slashed by McDavid, no call Pettersson was held in the corner for literally 5 seconds no call, if they aren't going to call those then why should they call the stuff on mcdavid.
the fact that the most despicable cheating you can possibly do by literally taking the best player out of the play in the final seconds is far and away the best thing you can do actually digusts me, i dont know what the league can do about it, but intentionally cheating is just stupid and i cant even blame garland for doing it, he won in this situation, and its just plain dum
Canucks frustrated them last season as well, we saw them snap and take penalties . If they can’t score they snap.

I think it’s hard as a ref to watch who is initiating holding in the wrestling matches and they’d rather let it go than penalize someone who they shouldn’t have
