Sorry Hockey Guy — your recollection of what Garland did last night is a little off. Garland should have been called for probably 3 penalties inside a minute. He was lucky all he got was that light cross-check. And the fact that he got nothing and the officials got no reprimand is everything wrong with the system. Just brutal. All three officials should have been internally fined and suspended for just how terrible they were … and this is coming from someone not an Edmonton fan.
I hope Columbus keeps this up.

It's funny that even a week ago, I was still seeing people say that the Pettersson/Miller thing was media driven. Nah, they don't like each other, and something has to give. Miller has looked like Dubois in his last shift with Columbus a few times lately. In his head, he's already gone.
So many cry babies for McDavid. Garland is 5'8. Did Garland hold his arm, ya he did. Could McDavid have gotten away once he was up, if he tried yes. At this point its a penalty for each. That doesn't justify Mcdavid losing his cool in the moment and deciding to crosscheck an oppossing player instead of trying to score a goal.

I obviously think McD should get the suspension – but if you look at the time "he was holding Garland down" you'll see his arm was being held and Garland was wrapping his legs around McD to keep him there – when I first watched the reply it did look like what you thought happened thought.

Shannon, you won’t mention this. But chaos at the end of the EDM-VAN could have easily been avoided. What Meyers and McDavid did was reprehensible but could have easily been avoided.
Wes McCauley should have thrown Garland out. Blow the play dead and give him a 10. Was it interference absolutely. By letter of the law it’s an unsporting play and should have been treated as such. Why are referees so afraid to hand out misconduct penalties? I get you don’t want games with 200 PIM, but there is a time and place to hand them out and this was it. I’m not even a fan of either team and I believe the officials could handle situations like this better. I’d be willing to bet Conor Garland gets no supplemental discipline for his role that led to the cross-check. Simply put refs need to start handing out 10s when the temperature has boiled over and the game has gotten out of hand. End of rant.

Let’s face it, NHL reffing at best is a joke. Mcdavid gets tackled and held and neither McCauley and Lee do anything … I have an idea, suspend these two sack of excrement refs for the rest of the season … in fact let’s just fire both of them and send a message to the refs.
Canucks fan here, I really don't want to lose either player, but if one has to go, it's Miller every day of the week. Petey's expensive, but once he's back to proper form, he's going to be more than worth it.
McDavid has had a number of questionable moments. I guess this time the refs couldn't pretend they didn't see it.
Both will get 2 games. U cant just give them 1 cause they play the next game after that 1 game suspension. So 2 games each.
Myers is worse though. He did his not during play. And its in retaliation so its premeditated too. And it was straight in Bouchards face while Garlands more on the face/side.

The rules haven't changed – It's the retaliation that ALWAYS gets called. McDavid DID push shove and eventually punch Garland in the back of the head and neither got a penalty call because it was fouls by both players, than McDavid took it one step beyond with his cross check. Stupid play gets stupid penalty… The Ref's weren't bad – McDavid lost his cool and cross-checked Garland after getting mugged… it happens in hockey when you tie up with another player… Myers match penalty was another stupid play but it's pretty evident Bouchard didn't do anything prior to that, so it wasn't retaliation in that case.
Canucks fans are diabolical about this situation. Acting like the myers cross check is the same as mcdavids, acting like mcdavid was holding garland down with 10 seconds left in the game and he would be interested in tying the game instead, and defending garland for just “playing good hockey”
One of these teams were angry at themselves for not playing up to their own standard set this season with how good they’ve been playing, and one of these teams have sucked most of the year and are being babies against the team that beat them last playoffs as well
