Holland's body of work has been putrid, end of story!
the dangle rant at the end is perfect lmao
Hell, the Hamburgler got the Sens in an improbable playoff berth. Condon held the fort for Anderson for the cinderella run. Goalies is not the only issue.
Them struggling to figure out Jay woodcrofts first name lol
Simple answer. Poor drafting, contracts, lack of depth and team defense
Or last years Canadians if Edmonton figures it out I think they are like that Habs last year where they go on a long run
Trade McDavid!
The Oilers's problems have been almost completely in net. They have top 6 offense more than covered with Draisaitl, McDavid, RNH, Puljujarvi, and Hyman. They need slightly more depth (Yamamoto, Foegele, and Kassian have all been 3rd line level, but the last few players in the lineup have been completely invisible). Defense is weak, but definitely is on a extremely low point right now and can play much better (Nurse and Bouchard are studs, Ceci and Keith have been passable, but everything else is mediocre so when anyone goes down the entire defense is in shambles). Their best goalie is a rookie who is playing as expected, and their two elder statesmen have been basically throwing games on completely savable shots. This in reality has just been a major blow to their confidence which is preventing them from keeping pace (because on some level they think they're bound to lose) with other teams.
Unfortunately the wealth of prospects the Oilers had in years past have either grown up and have already made the league (Skinner, McLeod, Bouchard, Yamamoto, etc…), or just aren't really eligible to play right now (Broberg and Holloway). I would be seriously questioning Holland's choice to trade the pick that could have been their goalie of the future in Wallstedt for Bourgault though…
Wow.!! Connor is totally dejected. Can you imagine how he must feel right now, he's used to winning games, is the captain of a hugely popular team and is used to receiving heaps of positive press. This situation has to be so demoralizing for him because it appears to be a no fix problem at the moment.
I'm not an Oilers fan but in saying that I do feel empathy for Connor and the team… maybe it's time he moved on…
Dave Tippett is unable to get McDavid to play defense.
Sounds like the management staff needs to be blown up. Coach has to play with the players he's given. Connor needs to see something change with the players he gets to captain. I'm sure it's not easy but if the GM and his scouting recommendations for NHL players to trade for or sign are giving this result, that's where the cull needs to happen. If Connor sees that a new group is making a different style of moves, he might give them a year or two grace, or he's gone.
"Who could have seen this decline coming?"
Oilers Fan: Uhh. Me…
aaaaaaannnnnnnnd we lost to the panthers 6-0
It's like the Vancouver Canucks moved East?
They misjudged their team because they played in a limited Canadian div last year. From what I've seen the D is average and wingers stand around in the defensive zone waiting for a pass
McDavid to Tampa
Ken Holland may be too accustomed to winning cups without much goaltending. But you don't have the best 200 foot 1-2-3 center punch of all time and nick Lidstrom playing 27 minutes a night.
How do these guys get views on a podcast. Zero hockey sense. Just read already written articles and review stats.
If the Oilers tank. They should not get a high draft pick!!! It’s ridiculous!!! Like to see McDavid go elsewhere. To a winning culture.
When you spend $40 million on 4 players the rest of the team is going to be weak. Just like Toronto
McDavid sucks as captain. Edmonton should trade him. Get a $5m goalie and an $8m forward to play with Draistl. Even if it didn't pan out. Who cares? 10-5 is better without McDavid, than 2-13 with him.
This is cring worthy to see a generational talent unable to lead his team through adversity. The word generational is simply a title bestowed upon a player who demonstrates the qualities that not only make other players around him better but inspires his team to follow his lead. Connor is missing out on so many opportunities to push forward. It's frustrating to see the squandering of such talent and the potential to raise his status among the greatest generational talents of our time.
No offense but my man is garbage your boy conner. Crosby doesn't try to lead the league in points, he tries to lead the pittsburgh penguins…… a leader! Edmonton needs a change top down, coach and players.
i think after a certain amount of losses, and a pattern of not being consistent, it starts to become a psycological mental thing, if the whole team believes that theres a problem with the team, the next time they get on the ice, their mental isnt in the game, their not thinking about winning, they're thinking about how they will lose this time, and knowing deep down that their chances of losing is alot higher than winning
McDavid looks miserable, he’s counting the days on his contract as is Draisaitl I am sure at this point.
“Will the coaching change do anything?” 🥶🥶🥶
HAHA so many Oilers haters looking ridiculous now.
Wow, less than two years after this was published, and you could almost use this piece word for word.
