Toronto is not tough to play against. Teams don't fear the Leafs. 3 of their 6 defensemen don't actually hit. Brock Nelson does not hit much, is expensive ($6 mill per), and his numbers are mostly generated when he plays Top 6 minutes. Still, you could do much worse. If the Leafs want to be tough to play against: Scott Laughton ($3 mill per, 2nd on team with hits), Trent Frederic ($2.3 mill per, 2nd on team with hits), and Luke Schenn ($275 mill per, 1st on team with hits) will help. Luke Kunin ($2.75 mill), a Centreman, who leads the Sharks in hits is a good option as well. However, his contract expires this year. Wish Boone Jenner was healthy. O'Reilly does not want to be on this team if not for the playoffs (and his good history with the coach). All of these players will command big asking prices.

Kuzmenko’s trade value has diminished so Toronto should consider trading for him and extending him at a cheaper contract? The idea being that they would resurrect his "trade value" by buying more years of service at a lower value.
