First
Later Mikko. Watch out for Hurricanes! You’ll have to win them a cup if you want another!
I think the biggest sticking point for me is just that I've heard Eric say so often now that he wants to run around town in a Speedo that I'm feeling like this is something he's wanting. And I'm thinking there ought to be a public service announcement made so we don't have to see this when it inevitably happens.
Jesus christ Eric
I freaking love this podcast and have been a diehard member for years. But I could do without Eric's rambling 20min rants where he constantly repeats himself, talks in circles, and raises his voice to the listener for no reason. I love Eric for his insights into the player and business side, and seems like he'd be a better fit as a weekly guest rather than a daily host. He's not a podcaster, and there's nothing wrong with that. It's just hard to listen to when he takes over the conversation.
More AJ, less Eric. Thanks in advance.
No shade to anyone here. I love this pod and having Eric's insight as a former player and the connections that he has to the Avs. But having AJ join more frequently is really helping me stay engaged with the newer episodes.
I feel like the biggest issue here was poor communication, that being Martin Necas did flow well in his second game with the Aves, time will tell but it was a good game Aves VS Rangers.
Big E ….love the analysis
Great insight but need to limit the Eric ranting
these guys are all fools who are doing nothing more than revisionist history, hind site 20/20 views….. they need to eat crow say they were wrong ………
Eric has to be more aware of how long he rambles. Rudo interrupted him to fit in an ad read, and instead of taking the hint, he just kept going for another 10 minutes after. I find myself tuning in less and less when he’s on. I know AJ isn’t on every day for his mental health, which I fully support, but man he really elevates the pod when he’s on (and allowed to talk before the 3rd segment).
mikko leaves a big hole for sure. he was always getting those go ahead goals or tieing it up. necas has always been really streaky. im sure mikko felt he was under appreciated. he def was overshadowed by cale and nate although ive always felt he was the most reliable and consistent, and clutch. at the end of the day its probably best for everybody besides chicago lmao
I love this pod and these guys. Truly. Spotify Wrapped put me in the top like .1% of listeners. But Rudo really needs to rein in Eric and utilize AJ more. And speak himself, too. The repetitiveness, the rambling, the borderline pathological defensiveness. Hope you guys see this! Truly, I love love your work, but this was a really rough episode to get through. (I know my timestamp is only 12 seconds in but I'd already listened on Spotify).
I love to hear what Eric has to say, he has such a unique perspective and it's awesome to hear it
Brutal trade. I thought he’d be an av forever.
Rudo with the ultimate point at the end comparing Mikko to Landys contract situation
Thank you all for all your work and insight
I'd love to see Eric break down the avs signing Brad May and saying it was a business decision.
Rantanen pretty much, imho, ate only when playing with Mac, Makar, etc line. When asked to run line 2, I had not seen good production in the last two years. Therefore, I'm not us bumbed up. Naces is good and will eat on that Mac line just like Mikko used to. Im fine with this trade.
The elephant in the room is pathetic play on D, lack of communication, giving up odd man rushes, left and right, and turnovers. PP is pathetic as well with rantanen or not. So, they need these other issues to work out.
There's no mystery or backstory. Cmac literally said they needed depth and even at 9 or 10 mil for Moose would have handcuffed them. "they pulled the rug" because that's what they had to do. Everyone wants some crazy insider drama
Awesome podcast boys. Always dropping logical reasoning. Loved to hear E’s experiences.
Any of three things need to happen for Carolina to have a successful trade.. either resign Mikko for 8×14, win the Cup, or flip him at the deadline for better than Necas/Drury. The Avs need Necas to be his "first two months" and not his "last two months", Necas to sign an extension rather than leave after next year, and Drury to recover from surgery and be a good bottom 6 contributor.
As a Blackhawks fan, it really bothers me seeing Mikko on another team. Dont ask why cause idk
I like Eric's rants. People are just impatient and want their info quick and to the point. Eric is a G, so let him fly lol
Eric Lacroix is on point.
Somebody badly mishandled this trade IMO. I believe Mikko when he says he was willing to take a team friendly discount. Don't like the feeling of disloyalty to one of your homegrown boys. This doesn't seem to be the first player that the Avalanche organization have treated poorly.
Eric talked for 50 minutes and said the same thing repeatedly. Rudo, do your job and manage the podcast better.
Hey guys it’s a new market and the cap is going up, and superstars win cups. E’s defensive rant seems more related to staying in good graces with the Avs organization. “At the end of the day” CMac’s moves have been the problem with a failure of the organization not having success, and unless another big move is coming, CMac’s is to blame.
I have heard a lot about this over the weekend.
Thanks, guys, for your insight.
Here is my thoughts.
Once the Oilers signed Draisaitl to the $14 million per year contract. I knew Mikko was gone. He shares the same agent with Draisaitl.
It came out today that the Avs offer was 90 million for 8 years. Now, either Mikko's agent thought he could get more from the Avs we won't know. Mikko's agent was staying firm with a number. I have seen some interviews this weekend where Mikko said he didn't want to be traded. But he had to know, or his agent didn't tell him. I don't blame CMACK or Sakic. They had a set number for Mikko's next contract. Mikko has a M-NTC on his Avs contract, he had to know.
I actually blame his agent because I believe he saw dollar signs. When players sign a contract, their agents get a very big piece of money from it.
Censoring comments critical of player salaries now?
Love you guys, how much you love the team and seem to understand the fans. It was hard for fans to understand the trade, and fans were upset. Keep up the good work!
As someone who can go on for hours, like Eric, I can promise you, he is only going on because you guys do not interject. He won't be offended if you do but he hates even the slightest bit of silence, especially when discussing something he is passionate about. If you're waiting for him to give you space to interject, it will never happen. Lol
Necas gets Nine million for six years……too soon? I will say this, if Mikko really loves it here and really wanted to take a deal; sign a new deal with the Avs, after the season. 🙂 If Mikko really wants a huge payday though and signs with a chicago for 15M a year, have a great career. Give me Necas, sign him long term and lets go out and win some more cups! Give me guys who really care about being here and winning titles, over an extra 3 million a year.
Also, the "internal Mac cap," isn't because Mac would care. Rather it's the organization saying, "the best player on the planet took a discount in order to be able to build a contender. You are going to have to take a similar discount BADED ON YOUR VALUE."
So sad to see mikko go, AJ returning to full time could heal that!
LOVED Eric's run on the issue. I was actually bummed the ad read disrupted it. When AJ is on I watch these episodes in full
Col improved, in my opinion. Nec will drive play more effectively. Fast, fast, skilled, and fast. And, this trade isn't over yet. More to come, i belive.
Great pod boys!
Eric has the Rantanen trade exactly right. Mikko chose $$ over remaining with the Avs. That's his choice & doesn't make him a bad guy. However, he's likely to be very disappointed when he doesn't command Draisaitl money. And where will he be playing next season? Weaker clubs have the cap space to pay Mikko $14 mil per year but is he prepared to play for a playoff no-hoper? Simply put, he made a colossal mistake that he'll probably regret for the remainder of his career.
The bottom line for me is that even among the fan base, people generally knew this was coming, especially if you take a sober look at the standings. If it wasn't for their 10-3 run in December, they wouldn't even be in a wild card spot right now, meaning there is still a real chance that they will miss the playoffs this spring.
And imagine that, the Avs find themselves on the golf courses in April and Rantanen is about to become a free agent. All the sudden you went all-in on Rantanen's contract remainder…for NOTHING in return.
Eric is right. You can't blame Rantanen for wanting maximum money. Adjusted for inflation, players like McKinnon, Makar or Rantanen are still making about 30% less than what Forsberg or Sakic were taking home back in 2000.
And if you really want to be pissed off at anyone, then you really need to be pissed at the NHL for effectively freezing the salary cap for the last 5 years – it's increased by a measly $2million since 2020. The Penguins with Crosby & Malkin or the Blackhawks with Toews, Kane and Hossa never had to deal with a cap freeze of this length!
