As a caps fan I'm not into Brock Nelson,, unless of course he can be had extremely cheap. Our system is stocked, and I don't want to part with legitimate future players for a rental.
I think a lot of people don't realize how stacked the Capitals' farm system is.
The best prospect is Ryan Leonard, but Andrew Cristall also has top line upside. Both guys will probably be on the team next season, so Andrew Mangiapane is probably gone.
Cole Hutson looks like he could be a top pair Defenseman, which means that they don't need to keep Chychrun (but they still might).
They've also got Ivan Miroshnichenko, and he should be a solid middle six player, and he should be a good fit for their system which relies heavily on forechecking (which is perfect for Leonard, by the way).
But beyond those four guys, they've also got a lot of other good prospects with a good chance of being a solid NHL player. On defense they have Vinnie Iorio and Ryan Chesley (good possible replacements for TVR), Cam Allen (good possible replacement for Carlson), and Leon Muggli (good possible replacement for Martin Fehervary).
At forward, they have guys like Ilya Protas (looks to be a better scorer than his big brother), Eriks Mateiko (he looked great at the world juniors for that surprising Latvia team), Patrick Thomas, and Terik Parascak. Not to mention guys like Ethen Frank and Hendrix Lapierre who have already made it up to the NHL for the Capitals.
And they're also in good shape at goalie with Shepard, Stevenson, Gibson, and a few others that I can't remember off the top of my head.
