Man, I am hoping necas is our new 2c.. either trade mitts or put him down to 3c if he can figure out how to play hockey like a hockey player (grind and win puck battles like he kinda cares).. Drouin can step into Mikkos spot. If he stays healthy. And Val, again, if healthy can take over permanently for Gabe. Unless part of this is Gabe coming back… I love Val’s game. Drouins too… we have insane skill on our team. But they must play to contribute. They don’t mean much off the ice… we need some good luck
That's a good comparison with Joe Thornton. The funny thing is, Necas would've been one of the top guys I would want in a trade. Just not in a trade for the Moose. Several have reported the Avs offered 13M with their final offer and Mikko turned it down. So better to get something, than nothing. If things really did get to that point.
As a fan of both Avs and Canes, I'm beyond dazed. The Canes finally have a true superstar offensive beast. If Rantanen keeps his 50+ goal pace in Carolina, they are going to be hot.

crazy trade – I can't believe what Chicago did for a 3rd round pick! Retaing salary AND moving Hall ?? I know Hall was going to be traded but sheesh – they could of waited till trade deadline day and gotten more for him you'd think – or at least get the 3rd pick just for him. I thought 2 or 3 draft picks for the salary retention. 3rd rounder most likely will never see the inside of an NHL arena unless he buys a ticket
Wings fan here. Trying to make playoffs while still having to play the canes 3 times is going to ruin us. The canes in my eyes are now top tier contenders.
Rofl, do you guys know hockey, or what? They traded Rantanen for ONE reason. They KNOW they won't be able to resign him. They've been having these talks for months. They KNOW they can't sign him. SO, trade him and get something back or else you get nothing back. It's really that simple. It's not that deep. Rofl. This was a hard watch.

Chicago didnt retain Hall's salary of 6 mil…paid half of Rantanen's salary (4 mil ).. so they saved some cap space of 1.4 mil, got a third for Hall, which was all he was worth..and opened a roster spot for a young prospect to come up which was the original plan !

What a fuckin crazy trade. Love to see it. I think the Hurricanes won this trade clearly. However, it is a wait and see to what the Avs do next. I really don’t get the 50% retained on Rantanen by the Hawks for a 3rd but they didn’t retain on Hall…?
Canes fans here are optimistic yet skeptical due to the inability to resign Guentzel last year. The potential of it happening again with Mikko is scary. Hopefully our Fins in Fishy (Aho) and KK can convince him to sign here long term. Sid the Middle Aged man to Carolina would be INSANE and I'm here for it. Canes fans will tell you we need a tendie, but I'd take Sid over any goalie move in a heartbeat. Necas wasn't exactly thrilled about being here and will be very expensive at the end of this deal with the direction the cap is going. Jacko will do well in Colorado and I don't like seeing him go. People keep saying Chicago got fleeced, but they actually save money by moving Hall, so it's not necessarily a bad move by them.

I wouldn't mind the trade if Necas was signed for another 3 or 4 years, but he's up next year. It gives the Avs another year to figure it out, but they gave up the best winger in the game. Drury and the 2nd are throw ins so I hate this trade for the Avs. Carolina is in do or die mode and if they can get Mikko resigned this could be a move that sets them up for a championship or two.
If the avs dont trade for jt miller, sidney crosby, or brady tkachuk, this season is a total bust and so is our cup window
1. Rantanen is not a defensive genius, his still better than Mckinnon, Nichuskin and Necas. 2. Mckinnon didn't take team friendly deal so why were they in a mindset that Rantanen would take one. If it's true that they thought 11,75m was enough they are insane.
3. If they needed to save room for Makar trade, them why wouldn't Makar need to take a team friendly deal and the cap would be 100-105m when makar needs. A new deal.

Necas is perpetually that player. Hot start high ceiling, cools off, wants to be paid for the ceiling not for the result. He's been doing the same carrot on a stick with Carolina for 2 years with his contract negotiations Carolina knew he wasn't coming back after the 2nd year. Now they give that contract to a sure thing
