  1. Everybody is talking about this dead cap as if they would have the money if they didnt buy them out. But the thats not the case. If they kept the players the Wilds would pay over 15 mill for 4 years and have 2 old players taking up space on the team. Now at least they can put in new young players on entrylevel contracts. Let them grow and learn and become better for the future. And hopefully years 3 and 4 the cap goes up and gives a little room. In my mind this is the best case scenario, because they cant buy them after this year because of how the contracts are. The repucations would have been much worse. Sorry about my english…

  2. Bad locker room guys. They're hoping that these guys coming up can break through and contribute before they need to get paid. Love the moves! Bring in some fresh legs.

  3. And let’s make sure we note that “to keep/protect Matt Dumba” means – to not lose him for nothing because we most certainly have and will continue to explore trading him.

  4. this makes me wonder if Minny is aiming for Dougie this off season here, with all this cap relief they may be trying to hit the big fish and make that cap a later problem

  5. They definitely want to win now and we will see what Guerin’s plan is in the coming weeks. However, I don’t believe he’s willing to overpay for Eichel and Rossi/Boldy are untouchable – so that will depend on where Buffalo’s asking price ends up.

  6. Imagine if Suter signs in new Jersey and Parise in Nashville
Their careers would be like perfect opposites

  7. i commend the wild for doing this. It's so rare that you see teams willingly force a rebuild. They try to stick around to just making the playoffs for so long that it hurts them in the long run. Final Iginila days in Calgary come to mind

  8. Parise I understand probably needs to be bought out, but Suter was still decent. We'll see what happens to the Wild in two years…

  9. Buffalo and Minnesota have really good relations so I wouldnt even be surprised if Jack is off to Minnesota

  10. With Parise and Suter, the wild made the playoffs 8 of 9 years. The wild missed the playoffs 4 years straight prior to their signing. Prediction: wild will not make the playoffs next year. We will have more defensive zone time and more shots/goals given up…

  11. Coyle, Niederraiter, Granlund… This has been going on for 3 seasons now, nothing new for the rest of us. It's not like it's your job or anything but please try to pay at least some attention.

  12. I kinda understand Guerin's approach… It's one thing to ask Suter to waive his NMC for the purposes of protecting another player and helping the team, but if there's no commitment to keeping him in MN after that, he's going to tell the GM to go pound sand. He didn't want to go anywhere, and Guerin figured while Suter was still a top 10 D-man in the league, he wasn't worth what he was being paid. One would have thought that he should have been approached about restructuring his contract to help out, but with as PO'd as he was with How Parise had been treated, he wasn't about to do management any favors.

  13. Can the wild not resign suter after the expansion draft…. ? im pretty sure a team could only not resign a bought out player during the compliance buyout…. am I wrong in this thinking ? They could easily claim they cleared space to try and acquire player x but when that failed they resigned the player they bought out… not draft circumvention in that case. Seems like a perfect storm for a guy like suter who doesn't want to go elsewhere. Just trying to make sense of this….

  14. If they wanted to stay all they had to do was lift their no movement clause and I highly doubt Seattle would've taken one of them, that's the only reason they got bought out so calm down with theory that the Wild will go all in the next 2 seasons

  15. How can you ask someone about waiving their NMC if they hang up on you & won't talk to you ❓❓

  16. I think jack eichel could make the wild (but no way would they win the cup) or he will be terrible and destroy the wild for a decade or 2

  17. The “Pareeeesaaa” pronunciation at the start of the vid made me tune out immediately. You can’t even pronounce the dudes name correctly. I’m sure your takes are just as bad

  18. Eichel to Minnesota might be the only place worse for him than Buffalo? So the Wild lands Eichel next season and then the following 2 years they have Eichel and 12-14 million in dead cap space? How can you even make the playoffs with that much money tied up paying guys to not pay for your team? I cant see what the path is besides tanking for 4 years. Can someone can fill me in on another option for Minnesota?

  19. Steve dangle talking about hockey is a joke. Dude hasnt even skated in his life lol.

Follow "the hockey guy" for real comentary.

  20. The part at the end about Minny having a huge hard-on for Eichel makes all sorts of sense. It's the first thing I thought when they axed Parise and Sutter: They're gonna go nuts throwing money at Kaprizov and Eichel on the basis that they would be the most explosive offensive duo in the game.

And yeah Eichel getting over his neck problems and having 2 killer seasons in Min would put his trade value through the roof, but it's a massive gamble. Will be fascinating to see what Guerin does from here….

  21. Suter complained to the owner asking for more playing time. Parise complained because he wanted practice to be in Minneapolis so he didn't have to drive so far.

  22. You have to suspect Bill Guerin is going to take a page from Jarmo's book in rapidly going all-in given their upcoming cap space issues. I wouldn't be surprised if they invest in UFAs on 1-year deals or look for players who will be out of contract at the end of the 21/22 season like Morgan Reilly, Bryan Rust, or Johnny Gaudreau, especially if that is what it takes for them to re-sign Kaprizov and Fiala as their future core.

  23. its hard when they change the rules after a contract is signed. these contracts were done under different rules. The team got screwed by the league when the rules changed and current contracts were not grandfathered in.

  24. When EDM acquired Keith, Suter was not bought out yet. I’m sure Holland is kicking himself now. Unless he sees Keith being way better than Suter. I’m against picking up Keith but Suter, no assets given, no big salary cap.

  25. I really respect Guerin for doing this. Minnesota needed a GM who wasn't afraid to make the tough calls and he is certainly doing that. Whether he's right or wrong remains to be seen, but either way I respect the Hell out of someone who's willing to do this.

  26. Wild should have never traded Nick Leddy 10 years ago. What a mess having players refuse to play for the Canadian teams. That seems significant.

  27. Parise will land in Tampa and then somehow revitalize his career. Tampa is the place players go to revitalize their hockey careers.

  28. Hoping the flyers can get Suter on a cap friendly deal instead of busting the bank for Hamilton or trading away too much for Jones

  29. Preds fan here…screw both. They went in and left together. 😅 Of course, this is great for them…now they're getting paid more with another eventual contract from another team(s). Of course, if Weber retires, we'll experience our own albatross overhead.

  30. @stevedangle Can you explain how any NHL players who get traded or play for a Canadian team take a pay cut? It is to my understanding that ALL NHL players are paid in US currency. That includes Canadian teams paying their players in Canadian dollars equal to US currency.

  31. Clarification on why they weren't asked to waive: Very little real money left on contracts is a motive to retire. The way cap recapture works, retiring from another team would be a cap bomb.Especially 2 years from now when they would be due to make $1m per for the final 2 seasons.
