In soccer National anthems are only played in international matches e.g. Canada v USA. Not used in domestic games or Continental competitions such as Champions League etc.

The playing, of both the U.S. and Canada anthems, is silly. I believe it started when Buffalo entered the league. Having many cross-border Canadian fans, the Sabre's thought it was a good idea to play them both. That was 1970. That's practically 2 centuries ago…

Concerning anthems: I remember when we had issues with France and a bunch of knuckleheads were going around saying "I refuse to eat French Fries and I will never use Frenche's Mustard." Boy they really showed them didn't they?
