@Oilers d'Edmonton

  1. TSN as a Canadian you have brought me some of the best memories of my life. TSN turning point is still culturally mentioned. You need more stunning moments and culpable content to make it in this day and age

  2. Oilers goaltending is going to cause them an early exit @ the hands of the Vegas Golden Knights (or Winnipeg).

  3. They need to start skinner every game in this 5 game road trip and see how he does as a final test before trade deadline to show he can do it come playoff time, and by that i mean he has to steal at least 1 or 2 games and win all 5.

  4. If Skinner is the guy Edmonton is going nowhere. You can't have below average goaltending AND below average defence in the playoffs, it's a recipe for disaster. They aren't going to get 2 freebie playoff rounds like they did last year, and they still barely scraped by an awful Vancouver team.

  5. I thought of Jake Evans the moment I saw that Edmonton is 23rd on the penalty kill. Montreal really shouldn’t get rid of him, as he is the second-best center they have.

  6. No net minding is the top need. It's great that Skinner did better than expected when Campbell was brought in but that doesn't mean he's good enough for a cup. He's played lots of series, but suffered in many and made the team play longer, more tiring series. If they had played fewer games, would they have scored one more goal in G7 last year? maybe. they looked gassed. His stats, such as they are, all come from playing well against weak competition too. Against good teams, it's a totally different story. Struddy is wrong here. Hope he's right. But.

  7. Strudwick is as usual loyal to Stu but way off base.. He looks at the investment the Oilers have made then he looks at the Roster structure in terms of Players vs Money, but thats not the question, the question is will Skinner be able to win a SC…. and Struddy never addresses how many times Skinners been pulled in Playoff game which could be an NHL Record. This year I see very poor body language from Players when those easy goals go slipping in….Pro sports is a confidence based dynamic no matter what you play. All feelings aside Skinner may simply be a bad fit. I certainly do not feel comfortable with him in the Playoffs, every start I simply wait for the easy goals to go in. The Oilers are IMHO chasing games way to much.If we multiply the pressure and emotions 3-4x as it is in the Playoffs….. then this becomes an Elephant in the room.

  8. Oilers have one of the best defensive metrics this year. For that, their .9 SV% isn`t good enough. Skinner also struggled last year in the playoffs and had to be replaced by Pickard.
I don`t look at Gibson, he`s to expensive and too much risk.
But there`s Vejmelka in Utah, upcoming UFA, who`s .909 and 2.57 GAA for fair 3m cap hit and Utah can retain. For less than 2m you can get a solid upgrade and injury insurance.
Pens have Nedeljkovic, he`s cheap, DET has Lyon or Talbot, in case they fall short.
Hawks Mrazek is having a good season on a lousy team.

So if the Oilers know Kane will be ready for the playoffs and Klingberg is the guy for 2nd RD, they can go and get a goalie, a 4th line center, and a depth LD.

  9. I think they need a good defensive defence men like esa Lindell or Chris tanev to play with Bouchard he would more comfortable pinching getting into the play knowing he has a reliable D partner to bail him out if he makes a mistake

  10. Do they still have Bouchard & Nurse on defence? Do they still have Skinner in goal?
Then no, they are not better than last year.

  11. I love Struddy, but I must respectfully disagree regarding the Oilers' goaltending woes. Unfortunately, Skinner is not the answer. I don't see the Oilers winning the cup with Skinner or the current goaltending duos. They need a massive upgrade. Last year, they would have won the cup had skinner not so many meltdowns in the playoffs. He is not unreliable, but a wonderful guy!

  12. I honestly dont understand how our oilers media are so dumb when it comes to goaltending. its so obviously our weakest position.

  13. Oilers need to keep Podkolzin, Draisaitl and J Skinner together so they can gel, I think it’ll be a very dangerous 2nd line. Bouchard needs to go at trade deadline in order to have Kane, McDavid and Hyman on top line. RNH needs to remain as a center on 3rd line with Perry and Brown.
