I dont think Toronto could realistically fit Jones in. Barring a significant trade. Or significant retension which I just cant see them wanting to retain like 50% for that long. Theyre eventually going to want to compete with Bedard… I would think Chicaos comfortability with retentsion on Jones would be somewhere in the 2-2.5M range. Which would put him in the 7-7.5M range. which is same thing Morgan Reilly makes. I cant see Reilly waiving to go to Chicago . but 7-7.5M is just to much for the leafs to do. and double retension would just cost them wayyyy too much.
If you want Jones at 50% retained youre likely giving up both cowan and Minten and a 1st. in the deal.To get to 7M the Leafs would have to give up Domi, Kampf, Reeves, TImmins , They wuld literally have to strip all their depth and go for him. I dont think Jones is overly needed. The main issue has always been the depth at forward. Put the assets into beefing up that bottom 6. expecially 3C.

Matthews was great, as were the T brothers and Guentzel. The rest of the US forwards were mid. Canada still has better top-end talent, plus a winning pedigree in these best-on-best events. Honestly, the US have no matches for the Canadians' top 3M of McDavid, Mackinnon and Makar.

Tuch to the Kings would be so incredible. But if it's going to cost Byfield, Clarke, Laferriere, or Greentree, it should be a no-go from the Kings standpoint. And I know I know, Buffalo isn't going to want more picks/prospects but at some point you have to be realistic and just get the best price you can find. Contenders aren't going to be looking to make the 'hockey trade' Buffalo will be looking for – So either take what you can get or keep the player.
