Aging is a drag in regards to sports. Have to say farewell to your heroes for good after having them in your life for twenty years. I am old enough that my first favourite player was Guy Lafleur. I cried on my dads lap in the fall of 84 when he suddenly retired. It was a treat to get him back four years later and see him play another three seasons. He wasn’t as good, but that didn’t matter. He was back! He played well and was close to a point per game and had stints here and there that he showed his old greatness. Same with Gretzky. Those last five years he had trouble scoring. He tried, but they weren’t going in. He still remained one of the best passers til the end in 99. I never thought I’d be as big a fan of anyone again, but a new kid came along.

Even tho he may beat 99 goal record but he still did it in lot less games he will still hold that

to be fair, Gretzky retired at 36, but it was also easier to score then.
Ovi becoming the highest goal scorer without any of the pansy protection Gretzky enjoyed most of his career.
I was upset about Ovechkin beating Gretzky's record but, after "The Great Ones" lack of support for team Canada, and Canada itself, I can't wait for the record to be broken.
