I love how balanced yet firm Torts is about his transparency, or even how he doesn't go over certain things regarding players he coaches.
He cares, but he has standards. Gotta respect the man who can stay firm with such difficult subject matter. He has to see these guys he talks about in the locker room and on the ice almost every day. He has standards on what he expects, and celebrates and champions his players when they meet or exceed.
His vocal appreciation of Risto and Cates and Michkov and even others is deserved and he is consistent in that praise as he sees consistency in those that he praises.
After watching almost every interview Torts has done since becoming head coach of the Flyers, I can say with upmost observation that the people covering the Flyers that ask the coaches/ players questions are the dumbest motherfuckers I’ve never met.
How do you NOT love this guy. You might not agree with him or his decisions BUT, he IS and has proven time and time again, that he is HONEST. He will tell you the truth the way he sees it . Take it or leave it. You have to respect that. It is refreshing in the world we live in today.
Translation : Risto is going nowhere. Neither is Scotty L. The "bustop guys" are York, Drysdale, Brink, Andre, Z. Possibly Tyson F. Guys are due RFA raises soon and will eat up cap space to retain. SL & RR do not. Both good pros. And under decent $. RFA money has become tricky with upside projections. That's what Torts is talking about IMO.
I think the Flyers screwed themselves up for years after signing Kevin Hayes. Before Hayes and JvR, we had Simmonds and Schenn and we were fine but we move those guys for two guys who cost more and were inconsistent in terms of production.
Asking about Torts’ thoughts on what a future coach might want is just dumb. He’s going to give advice on what he wants for a team he’s coaching. An already hard job being made harder by having by having to answer the media’s questions.

We don’t need to trade Risto feel like he’s earning that money. Might as well keep him, D men like him are hard to come by

As much as Tort was being frank, his assessment of Risto is also a backhand endorsement of his value and talent (and coachability).
Geezus Jackie.. wow
@7:48….Nobody seems to have picked up that he's talking about Couts.
I’m dying for some playoff hockey!
Jackie is absolutely brutal at her job

All I care about is if Michkov likes and respects Torts.
