after 9 years of bs. 5 years ago I've mentioned that skill alone is not going to cut it. these players need be well rounded physical play, grit and play with an edge, heart and passion. take a good look at florida, tampa and sens in their division. there is no core 4. that's because they play with a physical presence. once you play physical man to man tight checking with mathews and marner they are nowhere to be found they fold like paper and scared to be near the puck….like matthews is a big guy but he's weak as pu55y. Being a captain hould have a physical presence on the ice. teams have figured them out. if matthews is injured then get him fixed up. they played well without him earlier in the season. there is no other team in the nhl that has this much talent and yet the can't GET IT DONE. They should at least have 2 stanley cups by now. People need to stop watching and wasting hard earn money. im starting to realize that winning the cup is not in the teams dna. just make money. sorry but as a fan since salming, sittler, vaive ballard and gilmore days when i was in my teens and now 60. this team is done. im giving up on this team and put my hard earn money somewhere else. i suggest people do the same and see if changes happen. example bedard so much hype about this guy but he is no power forward he has no size like a matthew nies, matthew tkachuk..etc. physical tight game is required in the playoffs clearly!..SKILL IS NOT EVERYTHING

Matthews is an elite sniper & regular season NHL star. Was great he made the USA team for the 4 Nations Tourney. But elite snipers thrive on the wing. Matthews doesn’t generate enough assists to play centre on a successful NHL playoff team. Maybe Matthews is just playing well enough to be traded sometime soon. Why not – keep Marner and move Matthews?
You guys forgot to mention that the Sens played a great tight game and are on fire right now. Tanev deflected the GWG in the net too but ya keep crucifying the Leafs. 🫡

Matthew’s is not Captain material…He’s not Dougie Gilmour, Darryl Sittler, Wendel Clark, etc…that’s for sure. He gets beat for every puck and he’s on the ice for a lot of goals against.

Mathews is too "laid back" in the way he carries himself. He has crazy skill level, BUT I've rarely ever seen him pushing himself to an extreme level; like, it never looks to me like he is working hard or pushing himself. He relies on skill and not enough hard work. It takes 110% effort to win, and he hasn't shown that he's capable of that.
On top of this, he almost always seems to be dealing with some sort of chronic injury. He has begun several seasons where it already seems like he has an injury. Does he not take care of himself in the offseason? I don't have the answer, but this is a very serious problem, that nobody talks about it.
all those years of deep playoff runs by the leafs core 4 are finally catching up to them probably need to rest up for next year

16 may as well have had an Ottawa jersey on. 74,23 I expected a lot more from. 44 has got to be the WORST player on that team. Zero play making ability. OEL also stunk. I said this in a similar video but the leafs organization clearly don’t care if they win or lose. This team will never win a cup, they show no desire to win, it’s like they just show up to games because they have to but play like they don’t want to be there. The leafs to me are a group of guys who are lazy, they can skate hard in the first period, then just become lazy the rest of the game, the wait for the puck to come to them instead of going after it every time. When the leafs make their usual first round exit from the playoffs, don’t blame the coach m, the team will be the one to blame because they have no heart or desire to win.
over paid players in the NHL is becoming legend. hey don't get me wrong there are excellent hockey players in the NHL we all know who they are. BUT how many overpaid long term contracts are out there crippling the salary cap managing????? high priced contratcs and long term is not very good too many injuries can spoil the plans of GM's ??? imagine when the wrong players occupy the chairs available on a team? you needs 3 and 4th line solid hockey players not easy to find.

Don't be ridiculous… Matthews wasn't going to go on LTR (Or whatever it's called?), prior to the Trade Deadline … because he wanted to play in 4 Nations… If need be, he would have downplayed his injury to Leafs Brass and training staff…
