I went to Leafs game where they beat the lowly blackhawks 4-1 early season – Stolarz was first/second and third star in a game Leafs mailed in yet managed to win. That's the problem, too many wins when they mail it in and they expect that trend to continue and don't have habits to play a full 60. This is a culture issue and a leadership issue. That's why it will be another early exit from the playoffs. Different coach + same culture = another early exit. Bet on it.

Obviously we all should have appreciation for the kind of player Matthew Knies is, however, let's be careful when comparing anyone to Wendel Clark. I've been watching hockey for forty years and I've never seen a player quite like Wendel. I'm not saying he's up there with legends like Orr and Gretzky, but the combination of skills Clark had along with the intangibles like courage, leadership and intensity, Clark was truly a unicorn, never seen a hockey player like him.
I had to switch off your podcast when you said "Rielly is a new father" – that's a ridiculous excuse because (a) so many players have families and become parents in-season and don't tank (b) the guy makes a million bucks a month (Cdn) and can afford a nanny and support and (c) he's supposed to be a professinal athlete. Why not speak the obvious – this guy is visibly heavier than prior years and looks out of shape/much slower. If he doesn't perform he should be playing less bottom line. New father excuse is nauseating

Norm…. Please…. I respect Mike, but we’ve tried finding Reilly a partner for years…. It never has worked out. When is it Reilly the issue? He needs a fresh start somewhere else. He’s like the table top hockey game. He just spins and spins, doesn’t hit, doesn’t block shots, doesn’t rub his man out, doesn’t clear the man in front and doesn’t make up for any of the above offensively. It’s sad when I’d rather have Benoit out defensively than Reilly. I’m done going to the WELL with that guy.

I haven't seen Benoit lose us any games, but there are countless times Rielly has cost us. Rielly isn't even good enough to play on PP or PK.. that should tell you something. he is trash and has never been very good, at all. On any other team he is bottom pairing or 7D. (If that) Brodie saved his ass for a couple years and somehow took all the blame for trying to cover up his fumbles. Lastly, his conract is a great candidate for buying out. The cost to not have him here far outweighs the cost to have him here.
Mike: name a date when you last saw Morgan Reilly stick handle or skate around a player in his own zone and skate up ice and get into the play in an odd man rush.
(I think it was 2023 but maybe you have a different answer). I will give the benefit of the doubt that he will be a different player in the post season.
