Definitely unnecessary but let's face it… this isn't as bad as what someone like Joey Kocur use to do when he would knock guys out on the feet, let them hit the ice, and then land a couple more blows when they're already laying unconscious. So this isn't the worst thing i've seen in a fight🤷♂
Id like to think that when writing the rulebook the topic of fights came up then they started fighting 😂

until fight are completely banned these thing happen and according to the rulebook any fighting is not okay so if a player comes at you for no reason then you´re allowed to fuck him up anyway you want.
How about we let the players choose what’s bad or not, there was barely any reaction from anyone showing that they respected what was done in general, this isn’t the first time this has happened in a fight either. Let’s not forget Ovechkin literally slamming Svechnikov down to the ice causing a concussion in their fight a few years back and he put his WHOLE Weight into it.

You & I (now lots more people) know that you don't do this kind of thing on the ice. In the 70's & 80's Chatfield & possibly any Hurricanes who defended him may have needed ambulance rides. The toughest of tough & meanest of mean guts would often go out of there way to protect other guys heads.
Canes fans gotta be one of the worst fanbases. They defend the head coach who throws a temper tantrum at the refs EVERY GAME. He literally said Oshie embellished the hit in playoffs that led to a broken collar bone and dislocated shoulder, and canes fans agreed. But they made up lies that Ovi "brutally beat" svechnikov when they both threw their gloves down after svech kept chirping ovi every game. He knocked him out in one punch. They pull the victim card every time and it's getting ridiculous. This time, canes bench was chirping the caps bench when they were up and already winning. Yeah, you have to answer to that shit and their players can't throw fists so they turtle or do this. Their fans sending death threats still to Rantanen's family is proof in the pudding. It's literally not even a few – it's most of them.

The caps were down 5-1 they couldn't beat us so they tried to play dirty and learned this canes team isn't gonna let that crap fly so to add insult to injury we not only dominated them in every aspect of the game we beat their asses for being poor losers and playing dirty. And as for the prick that is tom Wilson when he retires he will go down as nothing more then a thug that is one of the dirtist players in rhe last few decades so i say let him run his mouth we will just shut it again next time we play them

@Eck let me say I've been watching your channel for years(subbed on another account where I watch all my videos)but this was not intentional. 1 Chatfield is not that kind of player, 2 during the fight Chatfield did not move his legs(other than when they both moved)this was unintentional not trying to start a fight in comments. At this point though Caps being down 5-1 with no chance at winning, not saying they should have rolled over, but for all we know the caps might have gave up a few goals by having people fight. Chatfield is not a dirty player this was an unfortunate thing to happen but luckily no one was hurt from it(at least not yet when I got a concussion I didn't show signs of it till a few hours later during school)

It's to dangerous and it doesn't belong in hockey at all. Chatfield knew what he was doing when he twisted, planted and threw up across his body. Thats not some new move or something you can do on the spot. You need to know how to wrestle or grapple. A lot of these players train with boxing and mma style training as it helps with balance and explosiveness. A suspension now and maybe a rule change when GM's meet over summer. Something that offically puts that type of move or leg sweep moves in the rule book so they can set the proper suspension and fine

I agree, that move was bullshit and I hope something big comes from it. It was very dangerous.
Only wrong thing about the situation is that it wasnt Wilson whose legs got sweeped.
And of course Blandina was reffing and he lost control of the game once again. This wasnt the first time and definitely wont be the last.

So I watched this about a dozen times and I can't decide if the 'leg sweep' was intenchenal, or if there skates just get a little too close as Chatfield swings McMichael to the ice in a attempt to end the fight. Personally I think this fight seemed to be authentic and Chatfield just wanted to end it. You got two willing participates & they knew the risks associated with fighting long before they're gloves hit the ice. So no, I don't think this warrants any disciplinary action.
