  1. Absolutely the best take I've seen on a Mount Rushmore discussion. Being reserved to VHS tapes and stories in my childhood, I never saw anyone dominate games like Mario did. Same goes for Hasek, and of Orr.

That goes to say, Crosby and unironically Ovechkin are the two most modern examples of legends of the game and I'd be remiss to think Sid is already on that list. It makes me wonder if McDavid reaches that tier when he's said and done.

Could we ever see a Crosby, Lemieux, Orr, and McDavid Mount Rushmore? Time will tell.

  2. I didn't mind the hayes signing over the summer. I liked the return for the price and hayes character. I just wonder if he, along with hienen, accarri, block more youth like ponomorov, broz, etc. I feel like this team could turn things around next season, but with certain contracts on the books, it may have to wait until the following season to really contend for the playoffs (not the cup). I would rather a middling season with the kids figuring things out than a middling season with guys who will off the roster the following season due to age or lack of impact.
    What say you DK?

  3. DK love your takes…but don't agree with Hayes….he's a good guy to have in the room for a rebuilding team….he is not a guy you want to occupy 12 roster spots on a playoff team. I understand the move for the pick but the player is a perimeter player, in tough games, his lack of foot speed and unwillingness for the past 8 years of his career from getting aggressive in the dirty areas he doesn't serve on a playoff team. For context, Matt Cullen was the 4th line centre on Penguins cup teams…he killed penalties and when he was on the ice he was a plus player…..Hayes isn't a plus player on the ice…..he doesn't create and doesn't stop the creation of plays against….

I like your mt Rushmore takes….great take

  4. Mount Rushmore part is just “give me this document, I’ll sign it”

  5. Lemieux is the greatest ever because he was able to dictate the pace of the game to whatever he wanted. There are some other players who have done that, but not near to the degree of Lemieux. Lemieux also created scoring chances where scoring chances should not have been possible. Gretzky to me and mind you I only watched about half his career given my age, but to me, he was the most opportunistic player of all time.

  6. Mario is the GOAT. He scored five goals five different ways in every possible combination in one game. Gretz and Ovi will never and have never done that. What he did for the city of Pittsburgh and hockey in general will never be repeated. So for that, Mario always tops Gretzky, as close a second as he may be. Sometimes its not about how many Cups or how many goals a player gets that signifies greatness

  7. Hayes as been a bright spot, especially in the bottom six, maybe bottom nine at times. He could benifit by getting surrounded by some talent that can finish. I would of liked to see him promoted at times either with Sid or Malkin, he handles and possesses the puck best on the team outside those two.
The Mount Rushmore is such a hard thing to choose bacause it's coming from a perspective of what we saw. I am 50 years old and I can't have Howe, Bossy or Orr on mine, I can only go off clips or hearsay on how great they were. When you look at the most talented guy possibly ever you get McDavid and the way he dominates todays game, but he hasn't won anything ( in a team sport) so he isn't on there yet. But when you make a list you have to consider their impact to the game, did he make his team better, the timeframe he went through, etc. For me, for what I watched religeously and retained, its hard not to have Lemieux, Gretzky, Jagr, and Sid, if I throw in a defenseman, Lidstrom, Chara, Pronger, Bourque or Coffee. With goalies, Hasek, Brodeur, Roy, maybe Fuhr. But as the game continues, will we be talking about Drysaitl, McDavid, Kucherov, MacKinnon, Makar etc? The Mount Rushmore is such a corrupt method of choosing, it becomes so biasis.

  8. Super Mario #66 is greatest. Big, skilled, shooter, passer, leader baisicly all what have to be in good player, almost perfect.

  9. Mario would stay on the ice and was relentless. He never stopped, he didn't slow down. The Goat ! Thank you DK

  10. Kouvinen is looking like a STUD. That’s a guy with a future. Crazy vision and playmaking skills

  11. Hayes is your perfect 4C for where this team is going in the next year he’s a damn fine player yes a little slower but still has value to a team trying to get younger he’s your everyday NHL guy not a superstar or anything fantastic someone that can help with the supporting cast coming up through Wilkes barre because he’s been everywhere in a lineup without a problem (see also Bryan Rust)

  12. Hey DK, just going to be honest here.. I don't trust Sully not to give guys like Hayes or Accari elevated roles that younger guys should have. Yes, Sully has quieted some of the chatter for the moment with his use of Rutger and Ville, but how about when things get tough? What happens if they go through a slump? Lets see it going into a fresh season, not when there's literally nothing to lose. I just do not trust 30+ year olds in the lineup with Sully as the coach. We have Sid, Geno, Tanger, Rust, Rakell, and Karlsson.. There's more than enough leadership, experience and veteran presence. I literally do not see a single benefit to having 32 year old, 20 point, -15 Kevin Hayes on our team. I hope they stop putting such self imposed importance on guys that are a dime a dozen.
