Not a hockey fan, so i need this explained. Refs initially assumed the goalie had snagged the puck. Ok, doesnt a ref go to the goalie to retrieve the puck? Wouldnt he notice that the goalie has no puck to give him? Like the goalie doesnt just pocket the pucks from all his saves and take them home at the end of the game. So how did the refs manage to screw up that aspect?

Why didn't they look for the puck post play?
The puck is super obviously in the net in the replay shots from behind the goal.
They should have stopped play until the review desk in Toronto could determine where the puck went. Even the commentators realized that the puck was lodged between the back bar and the net. The zebras reffing this game sucked. Also, # 14 of the Habs isn’t Laine, it’s Suzuki.
Watched this live because of that kid's debut, and I've definitely never seen anything like this in my years of watching hockey pretty regularly

Pucks don't just disappear. When the refs couldn't find it they should have asked for a video review. The review made it pretty clewr what happened.

2:22 you are correct however the play was reviewed before Laine took his shot however the refs were just as deaf as the were blind and didn’t see the scorekeeper screaming to get there attention, you can see it if you look near the bottom of the screen when Laine goes to shoot. Inarguably a good goal
Rule says they can't go back on it. Is it unfair? Yes, but it shouldn't have counted

This was such a screw up by the referees. Every shootout is reviewed by Toronto for verification. So the refs: 1. missed the goal, 2. couldn't account for the puck, 3. did not await a video review or initiate one, 4. it was Toronto who noticed the goal. The 2 refs should be sent to the minors.
I spotted the Puck in the back of the net immediately, kinda crazy the refs, the cameras and every player missed it
