What did you think of the press conference?
Sweeney was the head scout before becoming gm in 2015. The draft absolutely is his fault
The management was honest, thoughtful and a way forward. There is nothing bad here. The owner has no need to fire anyone. The only issue here is the media wanting the GM and or the President fired. Which is kind of crazy. My only issue with the Bruins is they do not give control to the coach to run the team the way the coach wants. This is a great organization.
start of the press conference sounded like jeremy swayman wrote it… and ended sounding like zadorov after a 6 goal loss. 😅
Proof what Boston needs is new management at the top.
The drafting is as bad as the "narrative" suggests (as you point out). I am not willing to call Letourneau a bust yet; but 0 goals in 30+ games at a powerhouse program like BC has alarm bells going off already. BC is losing some high level talent, so hopefully he gets a more prominent role with the team next year, and he better produce. If he ends next season with less than 10 goals (assuming he plays a full season) it's safe to say he's very unlikely to make the NHL (or possibly even the AHL).
So they trade Ullmark; get a goalie who is overpaid, unhappy, and should be bought-out or traded to make room for someone else, a 1st round pick that could turn into a major bust, and a 4th line winger. Boston is a team of basically three 4th lines, a premiere winger, a blossoming winger, and a 3rd line center being paid 1st line center dollars.
It's really said how far this has fallen. I almost hope they aren't able to sign any of the big name UFAs this summer; so they suck again next year and can hopefully draft McKenna. The fanbase needs something to get excited about, and signing players just to be able to say "look, we spend to the cap" doesn't solve your problems when you are giving 1st line money to 3rd line players.
I absolutely cannot stand listening to Sweeney's word salads.
The game has changed. The days of big is better, I believe, are over. Speed and transition is the new black. I think Cam and Don should put the "big is better" mentality behind them. The Bruins need some speeding tickets. The B's need speed. Not only physically, but mentally.
Every pick since 2015 has been either a bust or they ended up trading them for whatever reason, with the exception of 3 DeBrusk, Swayman and Beecher. The last 2 are even questionable. I don’t understand why they will not let the coach get involved in either drafting or signing FA’s. It’s his team. His system. He knows who will fit and who doesn’t and yet when the players don’t play up to what they’re capable of then they fire the coach. I guarantee they would’ve been gone in any other major sport. One dumb move was knowing DeBrusk was not resigning and instead of trading him and getting a pick or another player they let him walk.
Great analysis. Keep an eye on Marc Savard. I think he's the one they are talking about. Runs a highly successful PP in Toronto, turned the franchise around when he signed as a UFA with Chara. Has unfinished business in Boston and has always been a fan, even when he was an assistant in St. Louis.
Sweeney had plenty of excuses eh.
Jacobs has more faith in Sweeney than I ever will….can't understand why.
Guess we will just have to hope Sweeney and Neely can pick better than they have in the past.
Go Future Bruins.
You do realize that Dan was the assistant GM for multiple years prior to his promotion? He had the board and all of the prospect development reports for months before he was hired as the GM. I don’t think you can just declare he was newly hired and that’s why we screwed up.
Absolutely ZERO changed in my mind, after this press conference. 'More of the same, same old, same old.' I see no incoming solutions and little change in Bruins Management. "The right people on the bus" is a lame endorsement. I see NO new ideas, and see no evidence that the Mgmt can and will be more relevant in the age of speed and skill. Firing Coaches? year after year? and yet, that solves nothing!
Wasn't Don Sweeney the AGM before he was the general manager.?What was he doing before May in 2015 sleeping under his desk like George Costanza.?
Did Cam really run this back to 2015? The level of condescension and defensiveness is astounding. The last 10 years hasn't been a dumpster fire, but it's certainly nothing that you should be hanging your hat on, applause for the reporters who asked the tough questions and made them uncomfortable. It's about time. The flavour of this conference was ridiculous. I am more convinced. Cam needs to go now than ever.
Sweeney blowing smoke about coaching.
Holy stutter on ticket prices! 13% in two years!
Ticketmaster buys how many tickets then scalps them?
Did cam literally steal the BS Biden line of build back better?
Cam looked like he is waiting/anxious to reply about picks. Why is he even bringing up 2015 lol.
Wow cam avoided taking responsibility for this season just messed up
This organization is a disaster, from ownership on down. Ask yourself, what has this group ever won? Sweeney has been the GM for 10 seasons and no cup, but he fires the coaches for the failure of the teams he put together. I used to have season tickets but gave them up when Bourque asked out. I will never set foot in TD Garden as look as this management team is in place. As they keep reminding us: It's a business, and their customers are not getting their money's worth.
I don't know what people expected from this presser other than what we got. Did anyone really think that management/ownership were going to wear hair shirts and shave their heads? Do even Buffalo do that? If folks were hired and fired at the rate that the fanbase demand, there would be no Bruins organization to speak of.
Let's be real: this terrible season should've happened last year, but it didn't. Every team cycles in and out of relevance–it was going to happen eventually, and this was our first bad year in a long time. We should count ourselves lucky that it was such a seller's market, that we had any pieces to sell, and that our FO pounced on it. Pretty serendipitous if you ask me.
I'm concerned that their timeline is so short (I don't buy that we'll be competitive next year other than merely striving for a wildcard spot). I'm also really unsure what big moves there are to be made with this UFA/RFA class, since Marner is most likely staying in Toronto and the cap is going up so offer-sheets are less likely. But they're the ones being paid to figure this out, not me, so whatever. Give them some rope–they've earned it–and we can raise our torches and pitchforks next year if things don't improve.
No excuse when the main reason for the cumulative failures over the past several seasons is… incompetence.
Neely and Sweeny have no dignity. Ridiculous remarks upon ridiculous remarks. The least honorable thing to do would have been to resign. And yet, no! They're here dancing together to fool all the fans again.
What explains owner Jacobs' stubbornness in keeping these two men at the helm of the Bruins… except that he's perhaps as incompetent as they are?
We need an elite forward through draft or through free agency or we’ll be bottom 5 again in the NHL
Love the videos. This video specifically really helps me understand exactly what they are trying to say
Lingren is a top 4 defenseman and they picked him
the 24/25 season should have been cam and don's last chance. shure the shelf life of a gm and pres is longer than a coach but they have shown to be close to useless over and over again.
These guys are clueless. If I am a coach I am running far away from this job
