In hindsight you could argue it's not even a kick, I was probably a bit too definitive – I think it is based on the follow through after he angles his foot, and that is how it would've been called. Nonetheless.
The ONLY time I'd agree with the refs. I'm Canadian, and want to see the Jets go to the West finals, but that was 110% a goal. 😂 😂 Hits of Hellebyuck or however you spell dudes name.
This is a goal, as much as Bret Hulls Stanley Cup GWG vs Buffalo. 😂😂😂😂
I am a Devils fan . Couple of years ago we were about to break franchise record for consecutive wins playing Toronto . In that game our player kicked the puck and it ended up in the net after bouncing from opposition player . They disallowed that goal and two other Devils goals . The crowd was furious .
Hellebuyck put it in. He made a play on it. It’s a weird play for sure but I think they got it right. If it went directly in then it gets waved. Jets fans did this on the Binnington save. Blues put up 7 in that game. Made it too big of a deal. You have to recover and find a way to win on the road.
kicks should be allowed with the exception of if the players skate leaves the ice that makes it clear black and white calls ,quick video review did his skate leave the ice yes then no goal . 10 secs and the review is done back to the game,if the player is moving and being dragged down like the case on the lekky goal in the first round then its a not a kick as the player is being dragged hauled down and falling with no sight of the puck . pretty simple
You'd think Canadians had never watched hockey before in their lives, if you look close he was just trying to gain control with his foot he definitely was not trying to kick it in the goal, it wasn't even going in that direction. The goaltender swatted his stick in the direction of his own goal. It's pretty simple.
I think it's time the NHL got rid of the kicking issue and just allowed goals to be scored this way. These athletes are extremely talented, and we allow them to kick the puck up to their stick or a teammate. So why TF are we not allowing this when scoring a goal? Talk about AN*L!
If you watch the reply Helly is turning to face the puck like any goaltender should. As he is turning his stick is sliding around with him. Just when he gets into position is when the puck reflects off the stick. He was just trying to stop the puck like any good goalie should. Are we giving goal away now for goalies who are trying to do there jobs. Interesting.
hey eck … lighten up … your going to have a heart attack over a game … entertainment …' GIVE IT A REST ' … get out of the basement … get some fresh air … by a pizza … take a ride around the countryside … 'STOP POSTING ' … your a menace …
Canadian fans are the biggest whiners I swear to God. They act like they have a divine authority and nobody else should be allowed to play hockey, and it anyone else wins, then it's a travesty and it has to be because the ref's screwed them, or because the Americans cheated, or ''Americans shouldn't even be allowed to have NHL teams''. Guys…. maybe there's a reason you haven't won a cup in so long. Maybe your attitudes need to change!!!!!
I mean it’s kicking but it’s not distinctively being kicked at the net. It’s a skate to stick situation anyways that just so happens to somehow fall unto the onus of helly. I’m a heartbroken blues fan but still would rather jets come back in this series than watch the pesky rival stars move forward.
To be honest, jets shouldn't even be in this game anyway. Be furious if you want but they are super lucky to be in round 2 so stop making excuses and play better at home.
It's a kicking motion, but it's not a kicking motion, cause it's not kicked at the net. Makes sense ? ^^ For me, it does. Hellebuyck didn't have to guide it into the net like he did…
I am old. When Eck said kicking a puck into the net should be allowed by first reaction was "By George, this would make a mockery of the contest!" However the more I think about it I agree, if a player is skilled enough to direct the puck into the net with his skate how is it different than a player directing the puck into the net using another apparatus.
And they say Hellebuyck is better than Pekka Rinne. 😄 Rinne didn't score game losing goals to his own net. He led the (safe to say)worse Nashville team to the cup finals. Also, do winnipeg fans wish they took this goal away awarding Rantanen another gwg or what..?
Ehhhh that's a goal some nights. Some nights it's not. Rule book has nothing to do with it. Really comes down on who ever is making the call is feeling that day. We seen this day in day out for years in the NHL. There is no rhyme or reason in this league
Trying to make a save isn't shooting the puck into your own net. Players score behind the goal line all the time these days. So yes, of course he was trying to make a save. Maybe if he didn't get a stick on it it wouldn't have gone in… but only maybe, we really don't know. It could have bounced off of another part of his body — like so many behind-the-net goals do. But I am not sure it was a kicking motion in the first place with what I've seen allowed. But own goal? No, it was a save attempt that he got a piece of.
AHHHHH IM SORRR IF THE KICK IN WENT STRAIGHT IN, i agree it should be cancelled, but if it hit a stick or off the goalie , especially if the goalie knocks it in , it’s a GOOOOOAAALLLL

Nah Winnipeg fans are clueless
This play will live on for years. Heck, Sabres fans are still talking about Brett Hull 26 years later.
I don't even think it was a kick. I've seen more clear 'redirections' off of skates be allowed.
No one cares that you're an ex lawyer who never defended a case in an actual courtroom.
If it wasn’t directed at the net, it wouldn’t have gone in.
I wanted Peg to win…and I don’t see a kicking action tbh

his skate was on the ice leg never moved forward only his heel did , its not a kick, doesnt matter cause it hit hellabuck and went in

Ce n'est pas un kick direct et la puck a touché le bâton du défenseur, il faut accepter ce but
Do the Jets have the courage to start Comrie in the next road game?

Get a dictionary.
Not sure if it’s even a clear distinct kicking motion .
A RULE IS A RULE
I think the puck getting redirected by the goalie's stick negates any kick. It sucks for the Jets but go talk to the Oiler fans.

If hellebuyck does nothing there it’s not even close to being a goal. Hellebuyck 100% scored on himself.
I think it's time the NHL got rid of the kicking issue and just allowed goals to be scored this way.

He tried to kick it to his own stick. That's allowed isn't it?
either way the stars still would’ve won
Used to be a lawyer?

as a goalie, thats absolutely a good goal
he was like behind the goalline, he just was trying to control it, its not like he was in the crease and kicked it like a soccer ball
you can literally see him swing his stick trying to control it

He didn't even kick it towards the net
It was not a kicking motion. He never lifted his foot off the ice. End of story.
It's a kicking motion, but it's not a kicking motion, cause it's not kicked at the net.

For me, it does.
Hellebuyck didn't have to guide it into the net like he did…
You use to be a lawyer?
The Jets are now officially as terrible as the Sabres.
Didn’t it actually touch also Jets #36 before the goalie swept it to the net?
Jets fan but that's a goal

This is correct
does the puck hit barron's stick?
Forget hockey, let's play soccer ⚽
If u use the rule book for the goal why cant u use the rulebook for abuse of official

They shouldn't be complaining regardless of if the call was correct, they lost by 3 goals, none of which were empty netters.

are they furious about the 4 other goals they allowed?

it clearly deflects off the goalies stick there is one replay that clearly shows that. Good goal. Sorry. BTW I am cheering for winnipeg.
