I'm pretty happy with the Caps effort today. Logan Thompson has been an absolute superstar.

Caps have yet to play their best hockey this series and the canes played their best in both games. If the caps continue to adjust well and get settled this could be their series.

Caps played better tonight even though the first period looked like a repeat of game 1. Caps needed to win tonight. It would have been bad to have to go to Raleigh down 0-2

I didn't think CAR dominated at all. In fact, I lost track of the neutral zone turnovers. If the Canes want to give their fans PTSD, keep that up. Andersen kept them in it, so good on him for that…Just as an aside, I really, really wish the Canes would burn those crappy wordmark jerseys… 😒 …Unimaginative, tacky, and boring to look at. I hear they dull skates too by osmosis…

This game was a Yawner.
Knew the Caps would play better wasn’t sure it meant a win. Their lack of consistency has always been their downfall. They’ve had some teams with talent to win cups but these lulls they seem to have are always disappointing to see.
Although a 2-0 lead coming back to Raleigh would have been nice, we couldn't really ask for more than a split. I'll take it. This could very well be another 7 game series between these teams.
This game felt like the caps flipped the switch after the first. Game 1 they certainly didn’t have any significant zone time but most of the canes chances were kept to the outside. I was fine with their defending last game but their feet not moving fast enough and their passing being limp-wristed rankled me. They played like they could cruise in 5th gear when they needed to downshift to 4th and mash the loud pedal. That second period was just that.

Feels like a 7 game series no matter what. My prediction pre-playoffs was Carolina over Washington in 7 in the second round … so far looking pretty reasonable to me … we shall see …

Did anyone else like the sportsmanship on the Burns penalty? Duhaime calmly hands Burns his stick and Burns just accepts it as if the whole thing happened during warmups, not a game changing power play.
As a Caps fan, I’m not worried. We’re one bad turnover away from being up 2-0 and that’s with an absolute stinker of a game – at least according to the analytics. That is the style the Caps have played all season and they played it very well against an incredibly hungry team and showed they can hold up against the storm minus Alex Alexiyev not having his head up for a breakout pass. Also, the change of Leonard to Raddysh paid dividends. I felt like Raddysh’s doggedness really bottled up Carolina effectively.
Getting a puck to the throat leading to a goal against…that is tough
This series should not be this boring. But yikes.
Caps actually had some success in their attempt to muddy things up and keep Carolina from playing their game. Limiting this Canes team to 11 shots through 40 minutes is about as good as you can hope for. The Canes are fast & relentless but as a Caps fan this game gives me hope. I also think that the Caps quite often were a more buttoned-up team for road games this season.

I think the Caps did a good job avoiding giving up high-danger chances last night, even in stretches where Carolina was outplaying them in terms of puck possession. While Thompson was very solid, this was NOT a game where he had to make a bunch of crazy bailout saves. That said, the Caps relentless puck dumping is going to bite them eventually. Carolina is too good to just surrender puck possession for an entire series.
Shot attempts mean nothing at a certain point and the Canes can not physically hang with the Caps.

Shannon im surprised you didnt mention Tom Wilson and how he was literally the best player on the ice last night. He was all over the ice blocking shots throwing hits and he had a goal and a beautiful assist on that Carlson goal.
I was shocked the Canes grabbed the first win on the road. They are not a very good road team so that win is excellent. Canes are lights out at home with the ability to choose line matchups being a huge advantage. Just have to win on home ice and close out the series. I would love to see Nikishin get a chance to slot in somehow.
Wilson really took this game upon his shoulders and prevailed.

Happy coming off the road with a 1-1, thats good enough for me. Unhappy that Wilson leaving his feet and jumping at Svech to hit him wasn't a charging penalty. I know I know "its the playoffs" I can forgive a cross check or a big hit but thats flagrant. Either way, back to it in Raleigh. Could have gone either way.
