Nikishin will most likely not be seeing anymore of the playoffs. He was brought in raw from Russia literally just a few weeks ago. He played because his potential is bigger than the defensive backups already on the team. After this game though he is clearly too inexperienced to use again. Also he doesnt speak a word of English, which is the language used by players on the ice. Also Chatfield, the injured man he was playing for, is day to day and should be good to go.
I would like to say something about Frederick Andersen and I hope nobody gets mad about it, but the narrative about him being a choker or whatever is really dumb. This man is a very very good goalie. The way he’s performing is not at all a surprise; he’s done this before. He was a .940 in the playoffs a couple years ago and wasn’t even the best goalie in the series because Bob went nuclear and put up a .968 or something crazy like that.
Anyway people need to stop being such petty haters. He got blamed and scapegoated for all the Leafs problems but are the Leafs better off without him? nope
Canes STILL play the perfect playoff hockey: they are master of avoiding mistakes, but their forecheck causes them for opponents.
The canes have had two easy opponents. Florida will be a different beast.
And typical caps do absolutely nothing in the playoffs every year. They always look lazy and apathetic af it's so annoying to watch.
I love hearing teams complain that their team’s best players disappear in playoffs. The Staal-Martinook-Anyone line is a UNIT every year in playoffs that makes you forget the other team’s best are on the ice with how suffocating they are defensively.

Poor caps that one offside goal literally would have been the difference and OT probably would have occurred. Stay onside next time I guess.
I'm a Caps fan and I'm not even mad. Canes deserved to win. I wish the Caps had some more energy and put up a better fight, but honestly Canes deserved to win.

Ha, very charitable calling those 'falls' by Tom Wilson! Crazy that a PP wasn't enough, and he was desperately reaching for the 5/3. However, I will say that he played his ass off, and honestly, laid some hard but completely clean hits. He and Staal went back and forth a little, but nothing terrible.

Then there was some complaining about what the Leafs have done. Then Team canada beats Austria at the worlds. Still waiting to hear about Carolina closing out Washington.

Canes difference this year is not winning the division so that means they were able to rest the last few weeks of the season and get healthy. Big difference then years past when they gave out of energy which the system requires

The difference for us this year is that everybody is healthy. Hasn't been the case the past 3 years
i thought nikishin got a lot better after some early sloppiness with the puck (and the turnover for the goal that never was). obviously tough to expect too much out of him on a night like tonight, doesn’t speak the language, first game in THIS setting against a good team fighting for their lives…
that said, the one shift in the second was a sign of things to come: played great defense on ovi, caused the turnover where stankoven won the race and got them O zone possession, then had a MONSTER one time clapper that thompson made arguably his best save of the game on. well located blocker side and heavy. also made a poised saucer pass to the middle and cut down to the circle for a pass and another one timer from roslovic on that same shift. he looked AWESOME that shift. flashes are all you can really ask for in a game like this, and that one shift was a massive one.
Thanks for taking care of the Caps. From a Habs fan. I said I'd get a Canes shirt if they took Washington out. I think a Whalers one might do.

As a Caps fan, this was most fun season since 2018 and because of that, the most upset I’ve been about a playoff series loss since then too. I was hoping that for such a special season, it would end in perfect fashion. Alas, the magic ran out. Canes were super good and my head told me Canes in 6 while my heart wanted me to believe Caps in 7. Canes are a frustratingly good team, and that’s a compliment. Best of luck to Canes fans reading this, but let’s go Caps and hope for a better season next year!
