Oilers management if they want to keep McDavid they need to beef up the Player roster, because Oilers could not make any attempt at opportunities with players they had in Florida's end, Panthers totally shut the Oilers down even when Oilers had the 2 best players in the league, the Oilers couldn't generate anything. So Management better try really hard in curing this issue, why do you think McDavid is in no hurry ,he is playing chess with Oilers management to see how serious they will strengthen the Oilers roster and , if they don't…. you will lose McDavid…Period!

As an Oilers fan, it’s been incredibly frustrating seeing how poorly this roster has been mismanaged for so many years. I won’t blame McDavid if he decides to leave.
Last year, the Oilers should have won it. The Oilers were outplayed for sure in these Finals. They got rattled by some bad calls and didn't recover. Injuries and chasing the game played a big factor in the margin by which the Panthers beat them. Hyman was a big loss, RNH played the whole series with a broken hand, Ekholm's skating was terrible because of his pulled groin, and Frederic's high ankle sprain was at most 80% recovered.
If he wants to win like Crosby, he should take 9.7 million a year ti spread the wealth around..

The NHL should ‘nudge’ McDavid to sign with a big market US team in 2026. This was the lowest rated Stanley Cup final in years and the overall playoffs tv ratings were down 28%. The league cannot grow when the Rangers, Bruins, Flyers, Blackhawks and RedWings miss the playoffs. This is why i never liked expanding the league too much as you risk diluting the talent and getting certain markets in the Stanley Cup that don’t bring viewers.

Name a team who has more playoff victories than the Oilers over the last four years. The team does win a lot they just have run into a very good Panther team two years in a row.
Why would McDavid complain about a franchise that spends to cap limit and does very well in the playoffs?
It may be disappointing losing in the Stanley cup final, but the bottom line was they were in the Stanley cup final. Winnipeg, Colorado, Vegas and Dallas would have all be happy to get there but they didn’t.

McDavid has made 100M+ in his career, I read. If he wants to win a cup, take a $5M per year deal and sign with Florida. They have the best roster in the league, and he will probably win every year for the rest of his life.

the oilers have the 2nd oldest average roster age and got dogwalked by FLA. EDM has little to nothing in prospects. aren't exactly great at developing homegrown's either. all of ex-GM ken holland's 1st rd draft picks in his 4 years with the team have left the organization.
EDM went all-in this year and fell shorter and did far worse than 2024. they barely have any cap space to work with and gotta resign bouchard. skinner and pickard make a combined $3.5m and are also UFA's in 2026, and there's no remedy on the horizon for the goalie position anytime soon.
the oilers are soon going to have 4 guys taking up $50m in salary cap space.
