I don’t think getting rid of all the old vets and bringing in young legs is the answer. Many teams have proved that to be wrong. Age is experience – youth is inexperience – Just ask Brad Marchand. He will tell you experience, teamwork and DRIVE is what it takes! That is what I saw in the Florida Panthers in the final round against Edmonton!
No team has ever won the Stanley Cup with a player making over 10 million and these guys take 14M+ with no paycut on sight like Crosby always did because he wanted to win, seriously.

The Panthers are strong on the boards and cycle the puck amazingly well. Oilers can and will match and overcome it. It was a great season and a really enjoyable run. My daughter became a hockey fan watching this team perform in the playoffs.
It's truly something to witness the boundless optimism of Oilers fans! To maintain such a joyful outlook after 35 years and two consecutive Cup Final appearances that ended in abject failure, is just remarkable. Most fanbases might get a little fixated on actual Stanley Cup victories, but your team has clearly inspired a deeper appreciation for the noble pursuit of "almost" there, and "next year". Never Change.
I won't feel too bad since they will get paid handsomly for their effort. It's not like getting 0 or 7/8 Lotto numbers and getting nothing. They didn't win, but financially they won. I
Embracing the curse of touching the WCF trophy was a major mistake. Whilst one can argue not touching does not guarantee victory, touching it almost guarantees defeat. Wish we hadn’t tempted fate by touching it.

Florida GM did what it took to get better while Edmonton GM did worse then his cup team last yr.
Winning the cup there is no margin for error.
You either make the necessary changes to get better or you don't!
Oilers cannot be that incompetent to know that below mid goalies aren't good enough when Florida has an ELITE goaltender.
Florida's bottom SIX owned the Oilers bottom SIX it wasn't even close.

The GM either makes the needed changed to upgrade or you get worse like the Oilers did.

Two star players cannot beat a Florida team who is ELITE with grit & heart & players fully knowing what role they play.
Edmonton won't win Sh!t until the GM is serious about upgrading what they should have known needs to be upgraded.
Skinner & Pickard ain't it & the fact that the GM thought they are good enough speaks volumes about the lack of intelligence in the GM position.
Edmonton doesn't necessarily need a goalie like Florida has bc Bob is a HOF but the Oilers need to make a trade for a TRUE #1 goalie or else they will keep losing in the finals or worse if they also don't get better bottom six players.
We all know why they lost so why didn't the GM know?? You can't slack in talent & just expect to win Florida totally embarrassed Edmonton this series wasn't close on any level.
Even the Oilers two big superstars looked like boys compared to Florida's men Winning most every puck battle etc.

If Mcdavid wasn't in the league, hes the best player. Awesome player, great person. I feel like theirs a huge drop off from those 2 to the rest of the team. They need to get more depth like Florida has done. I see them and Florida in the semifinals again next year. Their power play is amazing but they need to have 3 solid lines. Look at Florida, their 3rd line did most of the damage.

The Oilers have played so much stronger then they did in 2024! You guys did so awesome! It didn't help that the Refs called every penalty possible on the Oilers while dismissing penalties for the Panthers.
I hoped that the Oilers win the Cup..especially for Leon and Connor , but Florida was the better Team with more depth. Personally i think it seems that Connor can not handle this pressure the Nation and himself puts on his shoulders. Leon Looks a Lot more focussed and positive than Connor. Connor ist may the greatest Skater and Player but in his Interviews he seems he has the complete world on his shoulders. Looks at the Attitude of Tkachuk, Barkov, Marchand, Bob. Hyman and Draisaitl have the same atttitude. May Connor should not be a Captain, may this makes it easier for him. But 2 SC Finals is also something they could be proud of.

Losing in the cup final two years in a row is still a heck of a lot better than being a Toronto Maple Leafs, who haven’t been to the final in 58 years
2games each after 4 games… so very very good oppty to close the series. .. about equal for both teams. EDM will have to be more consistent, a few less errors (posn or penalties or ability to score/finish). FL PP&PK just a bit better…. better position, less errors, bit faste rr getting to the right posn & pucks… but w some coaching… can close that gap w current players. Connor & Leon were both -7 in 6 games..

Oilers had 9th best regular season record, Florida had 10th best regular season record. Stanley Cup formula for success requires a skill component but the most important thing is the compete level of your horses. If you’re ok with being second to the puck, are saving your energy for the offensive zone, ok with turning a blind eye to a teammate getting run, your goalie being interfered with, worried about getting injured because you’re at the end of a contract, you don’t deserve your name on the Cup. Theron Fleury and Brad Marchand are prime examples of elite Compete Level! Much larger men like Matthews and Laine would’ve never made the NHL if they were the size of Fleury and Marchand period. I was embarrassed for Eckholm in game 3 during the fighting melee, big body but Marchand would give him a beat down…sad.
Cry harder. Maybe if you didn’t have the most sour, dour disposition in NHL history things would be better????
