I am no expert on hockey, but the Canucks is probably the team I have the hardest time figuring out. What are they, and where are they going ? Atleast Buffalo has made it clear for many a year that they are bad, and want to stay that way. Someone enlighten me.
I think what’s happening here is that the Acquilini’s are forcing management to make moves so they can sell tickets. Also, the idea that Hughes might walk after a couple of years probably had an influence in this decision too.

Kane has matured a bit. Petterson needs a bodyguard-type winger to excel. Kane is on a contract year, so he'll be on his best behaviour and be motivated. I think he'll have a good season for the Canucks. Estimate 0.7 ppg.

It wouldn't be a big surprise if Kane doesn't even complete the season with the Canucks. He could either be traded away to another team, maybe a cup contending team at the deadline, if he lasts until then. He could also possibly be demoted outright to Abbotsford to spend the rest of the year with them, though I highly doubt that, especially with his contract. The most likely thing is that they just release him instead. I would be very very surprised if he ends up on their roster for the whole season and is contributing to the team with a decent amount of points. Who knows at this point? I guess we'll just have to wait and see what's going to happen.

Why Canucs are bailing Oilers out? First i did read this trade as Kane + 4th to Canucs and did think thats a cheap dump. Now seeing this makes even less sense..
Sharks fan here…Kane pulled some dumb penalties in the end of the playoffs when Oilers still had a chance to come back. Canucks problem now. He's all about himself.
I have to wonder if Kane will still be on the Canucks after the draft. If they picked him up to turn him around to another team to get a better player then doing this for a 4th round pick will look very smart. Not sure it will happen but if it does……

Don’t love the trade for Vancouver, don’t hate it either considering the low cost.
Unpopular opinion. I don't hate this. Gave up a very low pick. Sure, didn't last season but if he ends up on LTIR then he's off the books, and 1 year contract, no big loss. Even then, put up decent points in the playoffs.
We always ask for "more Canadians!", "playoff experience!", "someone physical!" – and we just got all of that. Questions over locker room? Maybe. Hasn't seemed to affect the Oilers the past few seasons…?
If he had multiple years left it would be a bigger worry. With only one year left this isn't a bad trade. It works or it doesn't. If they make the playoffs, he is a playoff performer.

The Pettersson delusional fanboys seem to be against this trade. That's reason enough for me to love this trade.
I don't mind the trade. Canucks gave up a low pick and added a gritty middle 6 guy. Canucks are an EXTREMELY soft team and need all of that they can get.
