This was a great and informative video to watch, so thank you for that! To add to what you said at the very beginning of this video, I think the teams that go into their season thinking about how to build a cup winning team need to stop obsessing over what works for this Florida team and take a look at what and how they want to build an IDENTITY. I’m a rangers fan and Joe micheletti always said that’s what they lacked, and look at where they are now? A crippled team who rushed a rebuild with no apparent end goal (identity) in mind. Thanks for another great vid!!
Anyone who says the tax free state argument doesn’t matter couldn’t be more flat out wrong. You mean to tell me it’s a coincidence that since 2020 there has been a cup final with a total of 8 appearances including tax free state teams in the final…
Dallas vs Tampa Tampa vs Montreal Tampa vs Colorado Vegas vs Florida Florida vs Edmonton Florida vs Edmonton
If it doesn’t matter as some of you say, I don’t think it’s an accident that Marchment was traded from Dallas to Seattle… to ya know, keep his earnings in another income tax free state
If it's all about the state income tax, why aren't every single sports team in Florida the champions every single year? It's ridiculous, we haven't had a state income tax since I've lived here, in 1977…Why haven't the Miami Dolphins won the Super Bowl every year? Why haven't the Orlando Magic won A SINGLE NBA championship?
I don't care what kind of system your team is running, when you essentially have millions in extra cap space and the NHL has absolutely no other equalizing factors at play you have an unfair advantage.
Over the last 6 years you've had teams that come from states with no income tax consistently reach the final again and again. Would this happen if Florida or Vegas had 13% less cap space than other teams? Probably not.
Saying there's a Florida problem without mentioning the Lightning is a crime. They also won 2 in a row then lost to CO the 3rd final in 3 years. Immediately after, the Panthers have reached 3 Stanley's in a s row. Gotta mention the Lightning.
Panther fan here. Thank you, Hockey Psychology for pointing what should be obvious to the dopes in our fanbase. The clueless putzes in our fanbase do not realize the importance of Bob. Every fanbase, besides the loud clowns in ours is shocked that I actually have to say this. The man is still in his prime (dont ask me how). Dude is a machine. He has to be extended now, but for some reason, this fanbase is clueless and thinks that goalies like Bob grow on freakin trees. He is now one of the greatest playoff goalies in NHL history. If he is not retained our Cup window shuts real fast.
Personally I think all players should pay a flat percentage for taxes (eg 15%) that goes into a fund and the league uses that fund to pay taxes for every team(that way there’s no advantage to having no tax and it evens the playing field)
Other teams will try, but this model can't be replicated unless you also have the talent level to go along with it. There are other teams use similar systems with much less success because the caliber of players on their roster are on another tier. When the bounces come their way, they have the skill and presence of mind to capitalize where other teams just struggle to keep the play alive.

Are teams allowed to offer to pay player's sales tax and it not count against their cap?

It's their forechecking scheme.

The NHL is broken.
Panthers are clearly the best team in the league. Its about their depth. Hands down.

Man, I hate Florida, but God Damnit I love the Panthers…
I think the fact that you have a bad feeling about your team facing the Panthers in the Stanley Cup Finals speaks volumes.
hi HP, can you maybe do a video of what the top nhl teams needs inorder to be considered contenders for next season?
Why are you framing Floridas success as a “problem” or “issue”?
Tampa was the blueprint, panthers just copied it. Never forget

Panthers must sign Emil Lilleberg for tamba, perfect addition to our defense
because if you try to play like them you will get penalized, its not difficult
Gary saying it's not a problem means it is a problem.

Fabulous!
😂 Canada has a loser problem
