It wasn't just about 2 first rounders, Dobson needed to be signed at a very hight price. So Islanders probably would have wanted the 13th and Marco Kasper plus we would have to pay Dobson 9 or 10 million! No Way would I do that
Trade wasn't there obviously but at least at a 13th pick we got a high potential top six player who ranked top 10 amongst NAS.

The thing I think everyone is overlooking is the fact that since Dobson had to be resigned, the Islanders could really only trade him to a team that he was willing to resign with. Even if Yzerman offered the world, it wouldn’t be worth it if he wasn’t willing to sign with the Wings.
Totally agree about trading the pick for some quality NHL talent. Now that we havent used it in a trade, what does that say about trades for this summer given our lack of tradeable assets? IMO it lowers the probability of a trade for quality talent.
I liked Smith or Eklund much more than Bear. I think they have higher potential ceilings. I see Bear as kinda like a Kasper-lite. Bear is in the Wings mold but a conservative pick in some ways.

Anyone the Wings would’ve picked would be fine with you guys be honest. Yzerman has no aggression he’s becoming more pathetic every year. Bear will be fine but hyping him into some power forward type is probably way premature. He could just as easily be Danny Cleary 2.0

To me, Detroit is almost done with their rebuild. They are only lacking a top 4 LD. I expect all of these prospects to make it to the NHL in 4-5 years. These are Detroit's top prospects that have a good track record so far.
Everett, WA is about an hour from where I live. Hope to see Carter Bear play a few games in Everett or against the Seattle Thunderbirds (Chris Osgood’s old team).
Montreal and Ottawa started thier rebuilds 2 years after the Wings did and now they both r 3 years ahead , absolutely Yzerman should b fired now if we dont make at least the playoffs
