As a 56 year old Islander fan, and someone who lost his Mother at 17 as well, I really got emotional for this young man. I know that heartbreaking feeling as well. I wish you nothing but strength and the best. God bless!

Losing a parent is difficult no matter what age but it must be even more difficult for a young person such as Schaefer. Kudos to the Islanders for putting the cancer awareness ribbon on the jersey as well as his mom's initials sewn into the collar as well. He had Buccigros and Kevin Weeks on the verge of tears and I wish nothing but the best for Schaefer he seems like a great young man and hopefully will be a cornerstone to an Islanders resurgence.
All these kids coming out have no chance. They are all way too small!
