Really. How dumb can people be. If Marner wants to be a Golden Knight he can just wait 2 days and sign for the exact same money. This does not help Marner. It does not help the Golden Knights. It only helps Toronto. If Vegas needs to trade restricted Hague, they can probably get a 1st round pick from San Jose (Edmonton's next year) for him. This has to be something generated by a Toronto fan in the media. If Marner doesn't want to play for Vegas he just doesn't sign. If Marner does want to play for Vegas he just waits 2 days. Marner may want a shorter deal with the cap increasing the way it is,
These people say this nonsense with a straight face. I have yet to hear how this benefits Vegas or Marner. The Leaf jersey on the wall in the back should be your first clue. Marner does not want anything to do with Toronto. Marner, like McDavid, will sign for a shorter contract so they can take advantage of an increasing salary cap. And Vegas can dump Salary and get futures by trading Hague or Roy. Or anyone else for that matter. They don't need Toronto.
