Big names want long term contracts! You made fun of ken for giving long term contracts but it held the great players together and to make a long history of play off runs! Yzerman hasn’t been the best GM in his tenure, but he definitely hasn’t been the worst. He came in with a long term vision and he’s sticking to it, which I appreciate. He said from day 1 that it would be a long rebuild and done primarily through the draft. He’s drafted very well and we’re seeing those players steadily become regulars. I like what he’s done this offseason, even if it’s hasn’t been super exciting (outside of Gibson), the team is better now than it was at the end of last season. I’m still very bullish on the long term outlook of this team
Only person I might want him to sign that’s left is Ehlers for the top 6 other than that barring trades leave it the way it is I believe in Yzerman even tho many people are losing faith I still believe in him and the Yzerplan

You can rush a team into the playoffs or you can spend the time it takes to build a DYNASTY. Stevie was handed a team with almost no prospects, a maxed out cap and a team full of old washed up vets.
He's made the best draft pics he can considering how the league has screwed us via the lottery. He gets at least 3 more seasons from me. the question of whether Larkin is the one to lead us forward is my only concern. I'd like to see Mo or Marco move into a leadership role.
Thirty-two teams is too many, and the league continues to talk about expansion. You can get good players through 5 rounds in the NFL, but the NHL draft is a real crap-shoot outside the top half of the first round. Drafting 18 yr. old kids is a lot of guess work.

Yzerman is an awesome GM! He literally built the Tampa team that won 2 cups in 3 straight finals. Drafted Vasilesky.. and also Kucherov, Point etc OUTSIDE of the 1st round. Inherited the worst team in the league, that needed 2 years just to get rid of Holland;s bad contracts, before starting at less than zero. Drafted Mo, Raymond, Kasper, Edvinsson, ASP, MBN, DAnielson, Mazur, Bear, Buchelnikov, etc, etc. And 2 of the top 5 goalie prospects. Traded for Debrincat and Gibson, both for basically nothing. He told us it would take a long time from the start. But get these crybaby clowns crying about him taking so long. Stfu. he is an awesome GM!! Grow up between the ears, armchair GMs. And go find a different team to cry about. Y'all are so pathetic.

If all you're going to do is perpetually hold your extra cap money, the whole save it for the future contract argument is completely nonsensical. If you want to win, spend the money on players that will help you win. Yzerman is going to have shell out extra for the good players to come here until we start winning again. And you can't start winning again until you pay them.. Do the math..
I think this showed how weak he is as a gm. No real answers to anything. Same tired lines. We are rebuilding and i can't get my job done. None of my young players give me any confidence i can bring them up. I signed wannabes and old over the hill guys. You may proceed to attack me now. But the truth is the truth. He isn't prepared to bring up his great draft picks. He can't sign anyone of talent and he is to scared of making a mistake to do a trade. All the things a gm was hired for.

You're all fools if you believe Stevie is done, he will make a trade to solidify the Wings before training camp i guarantee it, come back in September and tell me if i was wrong. Stevie knows what he's doing and you do not bet the farm when the team has collapsed the last two years when they truly had a shot to make the playoffs, they choked, as Scotty Bowman said before the Wings won, they had to learn how to lose before they could win. If you do not understand how wise and profound that is you'll never understand what Stevie is building and you are making him responsible for uiw the players react and play after a loss
I want to know if a phone call was made to Toronto about a sign and trade for Marner. Communication with players can be made before free agency without tampering, you just have to be creative (like Vegas was)
HOF player, journeymen GM… at best. His UFA signings have been horrible. His only good trade was handed to him by the player, Cat, who only wanted to be in Detroit.
Yzermans all time General Manager record: 14 years. His teams have only made the playoffs 6 out of 14 years. 2 of the 6 were 1st round exits. 0 Stanley Cup Championships.
