Double-down on building from the goal out. Do not trade D-Petey.
They'll need to move more than D Petey. His cap hit isn't high enough. They'll need to movie between 3 and 5 million in cap just to make the numbers work. I'd keep D Petey anyway. The cap hit for what he provides is hard to replace and he'll only get better with more experience. I'd roll with what the they have and if things fall off the rails quickly, the next draft has McKenna at the top of it, as well as other highly talented players. With the cap, it's even more important to draft and develop well. Sure, you can get lucky with a mid-late round pick, but your chances of getting the next superstar who can lead you to a championship getting exponentially better the higher up in the draft you are. I don't care about playoffs. I want a championship. Other teams around the league are developing the right way. They're stockpiling top prospects and when they're ready, they'll have a ton of cap space to add what they need.
I also disagree as Kane brought zero drama to the Oilers dressing room. The points that Rob is making are the Kane of years ago. Who cares what car he shows up to the rink in as that only distracts the media from the rest of the team. I hated Kane, but only because he played a way that the Canucks sorely lacked since the Miller trade. He does his job effectively and in the end, that's all that matters. I honestly feel that Pettersson and Kane are going to have great chemistry together. He's exactly the winger that Pettersson needs on his line.
I don't think you trade any young defensemen.. So much wrong where you risk making things worse than they are already. And the team does not have enough larger players with a physical side. You don't touch Joshua. As a team we are nothing like a wolf pack like Florida. I think they would probably beat us every time. Calgary plays hard against us could beat us. Sort of fight fire with fire. And Kane is the only one on the team.. Last year the defense at the start was terrible and once Miller was gone only Joshua was a low level power forward. Need at least one or two power forwards in our line up. Our defense and goaltending should be fine. Brock is one dimensional but will pot 25 goals and maybe 30. Still weak and fragile but if by chance could be in the playoffs. If we don't run into injuries. Could just as easily go into the ditch right off. I don't want to gamble by trading away any of our young defense. It is like management or ownership think this team is way better than it is.
Creatng offense from the blue line doesn't it make sense to have warriors cleaning up garbage in the crease and tippers in front?
