Let's be honest VGK was nothing special they struggled against Minnesota in the first round, and Dallas was not as strong as past teams that they've had, They could have easily lost to the Avalanche in that 7 game series but they prevailed because of Ranntinen, What the Oilers did to the king's I agree that was impressive

The Panthers are a far smarter organization. Again, the concept of multiple people acting as one unit to achieve a goal. Soon the Oilers will need to play McDavid in net when he’s not playing centre, and him and D will need to take the roles of President, GM, and heads of scouting. Imagine having to work for an organization like that. Not sustainable and not a winning formula. McDavid will probably get injured this year, and the entire team will have to skip a playoff run just bc they’re so heavily reliant. Such a weird way to build a team.

RE: "Some nights" penalties against Connor are ignored. It is common knowledge in the NHL that referees try to even up penalties, that the rules change when the playoffs start, and the rules change again in the Finals. These are all powerful disincentives to play fair. I know lots of people like the "gamesmanship" of things like Bennet accidentally-on-purpose falling onto goalies, more power to them, I only wish there was a separate hockey league I could watch that valued the integrity of the game. I already have a TV show where I watch rich people be rewarded for cheating – it's called the news.
RE: Refs ignoring the rules in order to prevent teams with good power plays from getting chances. According to NHL officiating logic, it is morally wrong to decide the game by calling penalties. Instead, you should decide the game by not calling penalties.

This upcoming season will be the second year in a row the Oilers team gets worse. The question is if you were McDavid why would you stay? This team is probably 3-4 years away before they can challenge again and with Vegas rising and Florida still hot it does not look good for the Oil.
The Oilers d in the top 4 is fine Bouchard is an offensive machine and Ekholm is a reliable stalwart. Walman is a fine defenseman, Nurse is mediocre at best. Beyond that though it's a lot of lower level depth.
Skinner is a mercurial goalie not reliable, he has talent but has the consistency of tie dye painting. Pickard is a fringe backup, he is good in the AHL, but at the NHL using him as a tandem mate is not a long term solution.
Up front if 1-3 it's McDavid, Draisaitel, Nugent-Hopkins. It's great at center, but beyond those three, yeesh. Hyman is a great player, but beyond him on the wing, who do you have? Mostly pure middle sixers who on better teams are bottom 6ers. Adding Mangipane is a great find. But you have to fill the wings, with so much cap going to 4 players, you have to luck out and find great value players at low costs. To find these I generally don't trust Stan Bowman to fix.
I think the cup window is closing, as I wouldn't trust Stan Bowman to build a winner, his Chicago success came from previous GMs work and as they sought to remain in contention he bungled every move. Finding a goalie is hard, you have to hit with them. Skinner is not a Starter at this time and needs a 1b to spell him during his inconsistency.
All I know is Mcdavid needs steroids this year. Cuz he keeps getting rag dolled every game and loses the puck anytime someone plays his body. He’s the most boring player to watch cuz he can’t throw a hit. Boring

McDavid is waiting to see what Bowman is going to do to improve the team chances of winning. McD is only concerned about winning the cup. He could sign for $20M if he wants to. He has taken the home town discount already and is not going to do that again unless the Oilers show him that they are going to make the necessary changes. I said in a post a couple years ago that a Nurse trade should have happened when he still had some worth but now, every team knows he is a huge liability. Bouchard! The question is, does he bring more to the plate then he gives away? Skinner is a great back up goalie! The stat during the finals was that he never stopped a breakaway and the Oilers gave lots of opportunities there. Keep Picard at only a low cap hit, trade Skinner. Maybe Carter Hart will be available at some point and he is a hometown boy as well. I would not blame McDavid at all for leaving. He left money on the table on his last contract and look what that got him! A bunch of failed opportunities. The worst being Holloway and Broberg! What a waste.

Resigning Bouchard who play at 25% of capacity 15% of the time is one of them. They could have ditched him and got at least one Better goalie to help out.
The coach is trash. Knoblocked used the same playbook as last year. The panther's coach saw this coming so he mopped the floor with them easy.
Last year if i remember correctly Knoblock seperated McDavid and Drycycle in the finals to try to spread the love and power and they lost. Looks like he did the same things this year.
This was/is the equivalent of removing Messier and Gretzky from one another or Jordan removed from Pippen. You cannot cut your horse power in half in the last tournament of the year and expect to win the cup. That is beyond extreme stupidity. MCdavid and Drycycle ( yeah i call him that ) are like ying and yang they are made for each other and it is just a crazy sumbiotic relationship that the coach destroyed as if to throw the game to the US "again" and i am seriously questioning if the Oilers were set up to fail.
There is no way that a guy like McDavid will finish his career without a cup. In Edmonton or anywhere else. I seriously think that he will play his year and then pack his bag and move to another place. Edmonton just screwed themselves, by signing Bouche and they lost Kane and Perry. 2 guys that made a very good difference on the team. The rest of the team are decent but not enough to win the cup.
So, i think the Oilers are done. They had their chances. The coach and upper management screwed the team over and unless they sign an incredible goalie this summer i don't see them going anywhere. McDavid and Drycycle should just sit on their contract and then leave for teams that really want to win.

McDavid stopped drawing so many penalties because the refs caught on to his embellishments. It has to be embarrassing for a ref to call a hooking penalty on McDavid just to have it pointed out to them later that McDavid in fact held the stick of the other player, or an interference call where McDavid initiated the contact. At least half the time there is an infraction on him, you should be calling him for embellishment as well so they just let it go. It would be a bad look to have the best player in the world sitting in the penalty box half the game.
I think the Oilers goalies get over criticized because they are over exposed by a weak defence. Bouchard is inconsistent as is Nurse. Yes the BBomb is great but it doesn’t make up for the giveaways in his own end. Nurse is weak at the worst times and he seems afraid to sacrifice the body in crunch situations.
The Oilers always over play their two superstars when they get in trouble ( which is a lot thanks to a weak defence ). And by the time they get late in the playoffs they are overplayed and run out of gas .
That is a coaching problem. They need to run all four lines and give more credit to their meat and potatoes players. Those lower line players aren’t going to improve sitting on the bench whenever the oilers get behind .
Regarding Skinner , I think he like many past Oilers goalies he is a victim of bad goalie coaching. How many oilers Goalies have they ruined because of their goalie coach. Those goalies more often than not have moved to other teams and suddenly become much better .
The contracts for the best players and nurse leave no room for depth. Asking McDavid to tajj my e a discount to win when nurse and Bouchard and drai make so much money will be a tough ask

I truly believe Chris Drury is building the Rangers roster with the sole intent of adding McDavid either via trade or as a UFA next year. They are a perfect match with the direction Drury is going.

Shannon, as an Oil fan THANK YOU forncalling out about the reffing nit calling penalties on offensive teams. It was palpable in the seasonn(and calls were down league wide) but it became obvious it happened when calls for the same thing wouldnt also be called for us, only against us. All we.want is fair calls across the board, not favouritism! So I sincerely appreciate your objective call out as fans be crazy lol 🙏🏼🥰
