21 years after drafting Mario, along comes Sid. 21 years after drafting Sid…? 🤷♂️
I love this attitude. The whole idea of tanking is so lame. Build up picks and get better at the same time. That's the move
Tanking is for the best possible draft position. It's not random and can only move back two spots. So it does work.
Filling the wallet. One year contract in with a possibility to move it out at the trade deadline. And a set up for trading Karlsson. This is perfectly fine for the moment.
The team is not tanking. The team will probably finish between 6th and 9th. They might win a playoff series; I doubit it, but it is possible. The team CANNOT win the cup.
Tanking doesn't guarantee #1 over in the NHL
👻
Mike is wrong about Geno but I somewhat agree with him on Letang
Im assuming this TANKING IDEA..is because it worked the franchise ONCE…& we all have watched the PIRATES …TANK
The thing i want DUBAS to do…THE MOST……FIX THE D…I haven't seen it yet…in fact..I feel like it's being ignored
Getting a 2nd for Dumba now and then most likely adding another pick at the deadline when we retain half the contract and flip him to a playoff team is great asset management. I don't know why anyone is mad or confused on this part by now. This is exactly what Dubas has repeated the plan was going to be the second the traded Jake. Build up the pool and either use those assets themselves or flip them for useable players.
This team has a chance to be better next year, in my opinion. Like you mentioned DK, similar roster to a team that showed promise but now also we have a completely altered coaching staff. Not just running it back with the same brain and hoping for different methods. We have actual change and fresh ideas coming, not to mention it's only July. There could be 5 trades by the end of the summer that severely change the outlook of our roster or prospect pool. We are not witnessing tanking, we are witnessing smart asset management.
I'm sorry but if they r gonna tank, crosby needs to go, he deserves another cup run. Stings to say this as I love the pens 😢
Letang is great too. He skates around like a figure skater even though no one with his health problems would still be playing.
DK absolute great video. I think most people that talk about "tanking" or Geno sucks are not really hockey people.
They like hockey, but obviously get these cliche viewpoints from sports shows that put hockey 4th or 5th and view things surface level.
It makes NO SENSE to tank like it's the 80s.
Can we stop with the 10-5-2 talk it’s exhausting. I don’t understand how you can site the 17 game sample size at the end of the year, in which our much maligned goalie had a hot streak that was not representative of his overall season, and point to that as clear evidence that the team has potential in the upcoming year. What about the 65 games prior in which the team was a bottom 5-6 team for large stretches that had terrible goaltending, no depth scoring and couldn’t consistently defend their own end. As you say the roster is significantly similar so unless you’re banking on a significant positive regression from Tristan Jarry as well as Calder campaigns from our two younger roster players, the optimism simply seems like blind optimism. Realistically outside of the depth group of the forwards, which is improved slightly, the defense is worse and the goaltending is either neutral or slightly worse depending on your position on Blomquvist.
there is a generational talent in the draft. Giving yourself the biggest chance to land them is a great idea.
The Penguins don't need to tank. They're a bad team. We all saw the lazy play last season. They will "tank" naturally. This discussion is moot.
Dumba is horrendous. Letang sucks, and Geno is washed up. Dark times ahead.
DK – Malkin will likely finish top 25 all-time in points and quite possibly even top 20. He has: 3 Cups, 2 Art Ross, Calder, 1Conn Smythe and 1 Hart Trophy. He's easily one of the most underrated players in the hockey world(left off top 100 in lie of guys like Toews) and has been completely under-appreciated(if that's a word) by a portion of his own fan base for quite a few years. I've been following hockey for about thirty years and I'm not sure I've seen this with any other player, at least not to this degree. What can you attribute to this?
How can anybody call it tanking before the season starts? Tanking sure has helped a certain local baseball team. It must come from the people who don't eat enough chicken so they can have an extra slice of pie. That slice of pie can be good, or maybe you should have had more mashed potatoes. Trades can either help you, or give you a belly ache.
Thanks you – I needed this today
Making room for young talent is not "tanking". That is what Dubas is doing. Is injecting the top 6 with young talent like McGroarty and Koivunen considered worse or better than the start of last season? Is trying to create room for kids like Broz, Brunicke, Pickering and maybe Murashov on the NHL roster considered tanking or attempting to get younger and better at the same time? The Pens probably won't contend for the Cup or the Presidents' this year but they could push for the playoffs if the kids come in and step up. This is TEAM BUILDING and asset management not tanking. See the Washington Capitals not the Chicago Blackhawks.
Letang will also more than likely be in the top 20 all time in defenseman scoring after this year. Malkin top 25 for all skaters.
I guess I'll quit calling him Dumbo now….
Trade deadline. It’s another great element of this particular trade. His contract is up at the end of the year so he’s extremely valuable to teams trying to make the playoffs. That is if by the trade deadline, the penguins are out of it. If they are not, who cares about the extra pick?
Way to throw Letang under the bus! Sometimes it's what is said, sometimes it's what is not said. This time? It was both, lol. but the closing statement, I thought, bit the hardest.
I totally agree on tanking DK. Bringing in these young players can be a big win. If it ain't broke don't fix it. meaning it takes time to do it right. Thank you DK, Best show ever.
