  1. The leafs don't hate to lose so they will keep losing. You ever seen McDinkler after a loss? That man is scary, he wants it so badly and he won't stop until it's done. Matthews is all platitudes and is too mopey to be a winner in the NHL

  2. Maple Leafs should have signed Bill Belichick as head coach when they had the chance.

  3. I don't think there's going to be a "new guy". The impression I got from Keith Pelley's news conference was that Treliving was going to be given total control of hockey operations.

  4. It’s easy to figure out why the core 5 players don’t perform well in the playoffs: do they get paid in the playoffs like they do in the regular season. NO

  5. Shanahan is not a happy person. He must hate himself because why wouldn't he get a player just like…Shanahan! That team desperately needs two or three nasty power forwards.

  6. So Toronto is going with Brad Treliving with a retool or rebuild 😂 look at his body of work with Arizona and Calgary.

  7. Really speaks to their regular season consistency that theyre 3rd over that time but didnt win a presidents trophy

  8. The problem with this leafs era has been entitlement, lack of accountability and hubris. Dubas and Shanny thought it was a forgone conclusion the leafs would win or at least have a deep run ONCE but it never happened. I feel like Shanny specifically was more concerned about his job security and less about doing whatever it took to win a cup.

The plan was run it back every year and hope that eventually things broke the leafs way. An era wasted.

  9. Spezza and O'Reilly did great – given where they were in their careers. I don't blame them at all. Holmberg/Kampf/Jarnkrok are terrible. Much rather see the kids before they traded them away.

  10. I've been thinking for ages that Toronto should have traded Matthews for half-a-team, but I get a sadistic kick every spring watching the comedy reruns to see what twist they will add each year.

  11. Marchand will NEVER sign with the leafs yea he was a leafs fan as a kid but grew to hate the team he has already said he would never play for them.

  12. Also to note with this year. The panthers are running the canes right now and maybe this leafs team was different, but they ran into a buzz saw and still managed at 2-0 lead and blew it.

  13. My issue with Shannon is that he fence sits and gives takes like he's not really watching. This goes for all teams and not just Toronto. For example, saying Rielly isn't an issue is a huge tell he's not really watching what's going on. Again he's good for getting general information, but if you want a more in-depth take, he's not a great source.

  14. Mitch Marner have proven he is not worth paying $10+ millions so he’s gone. He stated near right away he will try the open market, and possibly some desperate team are foolish enough to sign such contract. With John Tavares, the so called "veteran leader of the crew" has to take a HUGE discount if he want to stay or he is gone-gone. 35+ years old and as usual is nowhere to be seen when needed is not holding up any longer.
In conclussion, the Maple Leafs need solid defenders, and solid leadership or this ship will continue to sink deeper.

  15. It's always been depth that has been there problem they rely completely on the core 4 once another team starts shutting them down they have nothing

  16. It's always a trip to hear Toronto fans talk about their team. Toronto has been successful in the core four era by the standards of nearly every other team. If four equal teams play a round robin, there's a 50% chance that one team – equal to all the others – goes 0-3. Looking at the number of close game sevens in the past few years, yeah, there's enough RNG in hockey to shake a few conference finals this way or that. Especially looking at how much better Toronto did than Carolina's doing.

  17. Toronto’s problem isn’t defense or goaltending….it’s how the team is built. They’re too top heavy. They have the core four or whatever they’re called…and that’s it !!!

  18. listening to this video was insightful because if you close your eyes and squint you could replace Toronto's 9 playoff "failures" with Tampa's, Washington's, St Louis', even Florida's. I don't agree with trading AM34 but can see that change is required to succeed.

  19. I completely agree with your position on Matthews – he remains very marketable – he would look great in a Rangers uniform

  20. It's the operating culture of the entire organization. It's built around making money not champions.
The vibe is about money not titles.

  21. I was thinking way back in 2019 they needed change after losing to Boston AGAIN in Game 7. I was expecting BIG changes. I was disappointed with years and years of failure.
