Qu’est-il arrivé à Connor McDavid et aux Oilers d’Edmonton?

Les Oilers d’Edmonton perdent leur deuxième finale consécutive de la Coupe Stanley, tandis que Connor McDavid était très silencieux. 1. You bet your ass it affects his legacy hugely without a cup. All the really good players I have seen since the 80s who didn’t win a cup. You just never or extremely seldom see them on talk shows or whatever about the current ongoing in the NHL. Like Ovechkin once said around 2015/16. I need to win a cup.. and he did. It really doesn’t matter if you win one or five. The problem is the zero.

  2. McDavid defenders can say, but he doesn’t have this, he needs that, others need to step up. Whatever the case may be. Iginla, Bure, Lundquist. All these guys aren’t much spoken of because they NEVER won. You need a cup. Just one. Need one. If you get one, all pressure is off. Just look at how much Ovechkin has been enjoying himself since 2018. He wants to win, but his cup is banked so all is okay and he can roll the window down and enjoy himself!

  3. I don’t think I’ll ever see the leafs win cause I wasn’t born in 67. My dad saw that and it was truly exciting he says. I just don’t see them winning. It helps without Marner, but even if they get McDavid, Connors best years are behind him and he is getting tired. Like Gretzky around 1991. He still had it, but the dominant player of three years prior was quickly turning into something else. A very good player. No longer a killer, but all was okay. He had cups. Failed in LA though. Had he gone to LA in 85 he would have led them to a cup.

  4. What happened to McDavid? One, Gustav Forsling and Aleksander Barkov. Two, the Oilers need a goalie. Three, the Oilers lack of 5 on 5 scoring.

  5. Florida played really well but also played dirty and had the refs paid off to win key games with massive penalties called one after the other until they could score with multiple 3 on 5's. Bettman said when he got hired in 1993 that the cup will never come to Canada again and it hasn't.

  6. Panthers have a tactic I call "offensive defense" and Oilers coach didn't adjust. Edmonton will never win if Knoblauch is coach. Not to take anything away from Barkov and Forsling, but I see it more as a matter of X's and O's. Paul Maurice just absolutely dominated the chest match. It was like checkmate in 12 moves. The Oilers couldn't even get out of their own end unless the Panthers were on a line change, let alone scoring.

  8. The real answer is Barkov and especially Forsling, as well as a defensive system that has consistently shut down opposing stars and forced them to play their game of true 5-on-5 hockey, a game they are second to none in at the moment.

It isn't about McDavid fading from the moment, but about the fact that behind him and Draisaitl, the team was struggling to do much to help their superstars. You can only be Superman for so long in the playoffs when playing the minutes that he played.

The Panthers, by contrast, had contributions up and down the lineup. The team is just better.

  9. McMuffin is soft and will never win in Edmonton. Pretty simple, Panthers shut down the Oilers same 3 plays and stopped the only two players that mattered.

  10. All the greats have at least one cup? Get a clue before you start talking with your little microphone.

  11. Stopping making this guy out to be what he isn’t. He’s Marcel Dionne. He’s Pat Lafontaine. He’s Dale Hawerchuk. He’s nothing new.

  12. He’ll get at least one still. But would’ve been good to see the goat get at least one in his first 10 seasons! Props to Florida’s D and strategy more than blame on Connor’s lack of productive IMO.

  13. I feel like the 90-point seasons, no cups run is just a testament to the minimum bar of quality a competitive NHL team needs to achieve.

This isn't the old days like with Roy or Gretzky, a superstar can put a lot of work in but they can't single handedly carry a franchise to cups anymore, it's the sum of the parts and Panthers had a greater sum.

  14. I'll take what Gretzky said. "There's regular season nerves, there's playoff nerves, there's Stanley Cup final nerves, and then there's Stanley Cup Final game 7 nerves, were you barly sleep the night before, you feel nauseous, and its normally not the teams superstars that step up in those games, its normally some glue guy."

  15. Only lead the league in playoff scoring again. Everyone talking about how Barkov shut him down … take a look at Barkovs stat line lol. Florida was the better team, this isn't nba one guy can't do it all

  16. The PROBLEM IS , OILERS DEFENSE IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH. FLORIDA SHUT HIM DOWN AND OILERS MUST FIND A WAY TO COUNTER ,IF THEY CAN COUNTER THEIR DEFENSE THEN WE HAVE A VERY GOOD CHANCE OF WINNING THE CUP.

  17. McDavid and Marner are friends. I'm sure they will talk about Marner's exit from Toronto and playing there.

  18. Everyone is over complicating this. The two best teams made it to the finals. Florida and just a juggernaut. That’s all there is to it. No ones beating Florida.

Reminds me of all those years Washington couldn’t get past Pittsburgh.

  19. Florida is deep. They have half a dozen guys who will make the big play. For McDavid's style of play to work against a team like that, he needs a more balanced supporting cast. Including a more solid two-way puck moving D. Bouchard came up short in the Finals, IMO.

  20. One trick pony. He's one dimensional who doesn't play defense. Please shut up with this "greatest player of all time" already.

  21. Ffs, he's set the bar so high. That anything beyond over 2 ppg, and completely dominating every night- the halfwits so desperate to marginalize that he's proven for over half a decade that he's far and away the worlds best player/ talk shit, it's a team game . And yeah- let's talk about his playoff stats. Are you sure that's the road you wanna take if you wanna hate ?? Go look at them.

Florida is awesome. And plays a relentless style. And they are significantly better than Connor's team.
So he struggled to find ice.
    End

    Nothing happened to him.
