The fact is we do NOT develope our prospects well at all; we are abysmal at it, and the fact that ya’ll can rarely be critical of this management group when they clearly take missteps shows me that you’re just a PR talk show for the Preds. Tolvanen had 23 goals last season. Our beloved RoR had 21 goals, Marchy had 21, Stammer 27, but ya he was a scrub. Tomasino scored 11goals and 12 assists with the Pens in 50 games…almost a half a point a game terrible right? I guess he needed time to “gel” lol. Meanwhile, Svech only had 8g 9a in 52 games and he’s a future 2nd line center right? ZLH had 5g and 10a in 62 games…these two according to you two should have one skate on the trading block if you’re being consistent right? They just gave a big fast 4th line center away in Parsinnen, who had 4g 7a 11pts on the 4th line on other teams to make room for Vinny Hinostroza to be called up last year. They gave away the only blue chip prospect this team had at the time in Askarov for lesser value. The Fabbro development and treatment and waiver move was a debacle. You justify picking Martin who most scouting agencies had at 8-10 when we could and should have drafted one of the 2 guys who went after us….the reason for the reach according to Trotz??? He has the “it” factor. Laughable. Barry buys out Duchene who would have led this team in scoring last season; he speaks out of both sides of his mouth claiming to want to play younger while buying at a sellers deadline bringing in yet anotther 3rd line grinder that’s “hard to play against” when we were the 3rd worst team in the league. You and the rest of the local media pick up on Trotz’s excuses of injury and an anomaly season. One of the first things Troz said when he took over the job is that we want to get out of the “mushy middle” and every move he makes is directly related to him trying to get back to that mushy middle. Trotz is just an extension of David Poile’s “Predators Hockey” scheme, and we will remain an irrelevant 1st round fodder mushy middle team while he and Sean Henry run this organization. We need a total overhaul in management and a compete rebuild San Jose Sharks style.
Nobody made an inpact on there next team? Didn’t Jankowski play well? Wasn’t Fabbro good for CBJ? Carrier played well for Montreal. Tomasino played decently for a crappy Penguins team. Like, none of these guys were world beaters. But, they all played well. And the more important thing is they played better elsewhere than in Nashville. Which means it was the team utilizing and developing them incorrectly and probably having to play them higher in the lineup (and therefore against better lines) than they should have been. Take a good 3rd liner and ask 2nd or even 1st line, they are going crumble more often than not. Sometimes they rise to the occasion. But, a 3rd line center vs McKinnon and asking them to score 60+ points is crazy. When these guys were put into rolls that they actually fit, they did well. Or, they did better should I say. So, if we keep asking our guys to move up in the lineup when they are not ready for or not able to, that is an organizational and talent issue. The Preds DO have talent. Good players who can do great things. Just, like maxed out at 2nd line. If you get these guys to play 1st line… they are going to be burnt and look bad. They are going to be a “bust”. Then go onto another team and be put as the 3rd line guy and play really well. Of the top 6 forwards, I think we have 1 1st liner, 4 2nd liners, and 1 3rd liner. So, guys are being pushed up. Taking roles they are not ready for. It shows. Same goes with our defense but to a much lesser degree. Our forward group is brutal. But, if we had 3 actual 1st liners, everyone could be where they need to be and be playing better. This is a LOOOONNGG winded way of saying, the guys we got rid of do play better elsewhere. But, they are not 1st liners in their new teams or top 2 D either. But, they are in the correct role now and magically are having a better time of it. The issue then becomes the assets, or lack thereof, the Preds got in return for what we sent out. And, that is a huge issue of Trotz. I think he maybe… maybe was right to get rid of all the guys he did. But got back like 50% off what he should have got. And, still wanting to go for it with the depleted, odd mix of youth and old… we tried repeating 2024 playoffs (which we shouldn’t have even made if it were not for a lightning in a bottle streak. Though awesome to watch and follow, it wasn’t who the team actually was) in the 2024-2025 season with additions. It failed. Time to accept a rebuild. Full stop. No on the fly retool. No, use your veterans to teach the young guys. Trade the vets if they want out for a cup run as they turn to UFAs and get pieces for the future back. Get blue chip prospects via draft (top 5 picks). Rebrand from the terrible all yellow (we can stay gold but by gods we need colors to break it up. Navy also would be highly acceptable). Usher in a new era. It is time. Oh, also fire Trotz. I do not trust him to do this rebuild. His asset management, trades, and drafting are all in the bottom 10 GMs in the league to various levels of bad. That isn’t who you want building a cup winning team. Hall of Fame coach who should be loved for his time in Nashville coaching. As a GM, leave.
Kevin Fiala is the one that got away
Perhaps had we not prematurely extended Cole Smith and McCaron, we could’ve held on to both Sherwood and Jankowski. Both players have always been more skilled than Smith, McCaron. Terrible asset management yet again from the front office.
Trotz has basically replaced everyone but the core and a few up and comers. At some point you have to start looking at management and the core players(leadership) for answers. I’ll always be a fan and go to games and support the team, but that was as bad of a hockey team as I have seen since I started watching hockey in the early 90s. Numbers and statistics aren’t everything, lots of bad teams were still fun to watch because they tried hard and had an identity and didn’t look like beer league team on a Tuesday night. Trotz preaches culture and a good locker room, but I sensed a disconnect on all levels and it really showed on the ice last year.
