Pros Exciting for fans and ends the game early. Cons: Agee with Brodie – batting practice to decide a game (boooo…). Plus, power hitters who can't do much else become even more valuable to teams as you'll want them in your lineup to participate in feasting off meatballs. I say no.
I honestly would prefer a tie over a swing off
If they're doing a swing of the end of the game, it needs to be a person from the opposite team throwing the BP, not their own coaches… and hitters are required to swing at every pitch regardless of location of pitch… sound ridiculous? The whole concept of a swing off is ridiculous.
go back to normal extra innings and do swing off after 12 innings
I mean people want to see shoot out in hockey, soccer! I thought it was exciting! Yes I miss old school baseball and strategy but at this point just do the robo umps if the ball hits the box light up stadium red or green and do all these crazy things. Haha
1: I think we are forgetting we are playing a kids game for entertainment. 2: I think there should be a mix. like up to the 12 to 13th inning have a runner on 2nd. but if its still tied after that lets go to a home run derby. that way we can say, y'all had your shot but we want to go home and at least go out with a entertaining BANG.
I thought the swing off was dumb in my opinion
In a 162 game season, a tie would be no big deal. But since Americans always need to have a winner, you have to do something. But it doesn’t matter how you settle a tie. Flip a coin, have a HR derby, play with ghost runners or good old extra innings. It simply does not matter. Pick something, ignore the haters and have fun with it.
I already watch less baseball than I ever have because of Manfred's ridiculous rule changes. This would be the thing that would make me give up on it completely.
One big difference between a hockey shootout and a baseball swingoff (and you kinda touched on this), is hockey has a defense. A swingoff doesn't have a defense.
Granted this is AI but I asked one to simulate the last four seasons as if there was no courtesy Runner. Yankees won the World Series in 2022 and 2024 due to different standings with a different bullpen. Braves won the last two pennants. But that's using the entire team whereas a swing off is not baseball and it unfairly hurts the teams that rely on something different and still win that way.
I would hate if swing-offs happened in regular season games, it just doesn't feel right.
The home run swing-off idea to be implemented into regular season games and post season games sucks! The regular season needs to shrunken down to 153 games for each team, and all game-series need to be 3 games; making a total of 31 3-game series. Also, salary cap and salary floor are needed. What do you think?

Regular season after 12 innings I could maybe accept a swing off. But a player needs to pitch in the swing-off – not a coach. In my view between the lines players must be directly responsible for the outcome – not some soft tossing 63 year old bullpen coach.
No way! Imagine you have a tie score 0-0 with one of the pitchers with a perfect game. You’re going to take that away due to some slugger smacking it over the wall? People forget that pitching wins games just as much as hitting the ball does. Unfortunately a well pitched game is boring as heck to watch for most casual fans. So this is how we wind up with stupid home run derbies and things like that.
Extra innings need to at least resemble an overtime reset. No matter who got the final out in the 9th, the top of the order should start off extra inning play. It’s like ending a game with 3 random players 4-9 on the marlins vs Ohtani Betts and freeman. 9 times out of 10 the dodgers win that

This is going to be unpopular. I grew up in LatAm and Europe so I don't have the aversion to ties that most Americans seem to have. Look, it's a regular season game, you don't really need to know who's better over the course of one game. If after 9 innings it's tied, let it go to extra innings, if after 11 innings it's still tied, just end it there. In my opinion neither team deserves the W in that case nor the L. The better team will still go to the playoffs at the end of the regular season. I get it, ties are anticlimactic but sometimes such is life.
