You’ve made me a bigger hockey fan thanks THG!
Great video, however having the Atlantic to the left and the Pacific to the right on the board hurt my Geography-brain.
Totally appreciated this series last year. Really cool that you continued the series with this video.
The Panthers will be the next dynasty.
it's askArov
Would be awesome if the board was the whole screen, especially when the letters are that small
I absolutely love the history series, Shannon. That playlist is amazing. Keep up the amazing work.
Shannon promised Mess that he wouldn't do this😂
I really enjoyed this series last summer, I’ve been waiting all summer for this video
History videos here we go again
Great recap!
I'm hoping the tanking viewerships for the playoffs don't lead to another lockout. In that case nobody wins.
I think the new York islanders had 82 points when the season ended and will you do another history making video next year for the 2025 2026 season
2025 was a once in a lifetime season
I'm not sure I'm a fan of this new trend of referring to Matthew Tkachuk as Matthew Tkachuk, and not Keith Tkachuk, but other than that minor gripe, great video as per usual.
And the Sabres are just there
One of the worst Detroit seasons I've ever seen in any sport. That first half with Lalonde coaching was unwatchable and McLellan couldn't stop another March collapse after rallying them to a wild card spot. As frustrating as the previous season was, they were at least entertaining to watch.
If you look at what the Panthers have built the past 3 years, my Canucks are not even close.
Another great video Shannon
Sportsnet also took away their comment section so guaranteeing it'll be more of a dead site than it already is.
They probably think people go to the site to read guys opinions like Francis, Spector, engel, and fox 😂😂
This past season was an awesome one, the most memorable one we've had for a long time largely due to the 4 Nations Faceoff. We've got another exciting season ahead of us too!
T.H.G. is great! The "Bob Ross" of Hockey…part Legend and part Artiste . You heard it here first 🙂
Canuck fans don't talk about this season.
Thank you.
So happy to see this! Thank you so much
💯
I would love this to become a yearly recap that is added to that playlist.
Sabres are looking at 15 in-a-row
Crosby going to continue until he beats Gretzky's assists record. 20 or so more seasons should do it?
This series is poorly done.
Conference Finals will continue to be underwhelming until they go back to 1-8 seeding.
I think Knies has made a case to be a part of the Core 4 in Toronto, which should now consist of Matthews, Nylander, Reilly, and Knies (even though Tavares is still a part of the roster). So with Knies playing as well as he did, it was pretty much time for a Core 4 shake-up for Toronto.
This past year was interesting. All 4 American based O6 teams missed the playoffs, the two teams Johnny Gaudreau played for during his short-lived career (Calgary and Columbus) barely missed the playoffs by one or two games, the Atlantic division saw a provincial rivalry renewed after 23 years and a state rivalry resumed from the previous year, all four #1 seeds got knocked out in the second round, Carolina (FINALLY) won a Conference Finals game in now four CF exits, Wayne Gretzky had not one, but two records broken (most goals by Ovechkin, most seasons – maybe most consecutive seasons – with a point-per-game average of at least 1 by Crosby), and Rantanen got traded twice in the same season.
Happy to see more of these Shannon, watched every one last year!
Some fun facts about the 2024-25 NHL season.
If you kept the same playoff format but only took into account home records only or away records only in the regular season, the playoff matchups would be quite different:
☆HOME ONLY:
●WEST:
•Winnipeg Jets (Central 1st) vs Calgary Flames (1st Wild Card)
•Dallas Stars (Central 2nd) vs Colorado Avalanche (Central 3rd)
•Los Angeles Kings (Pacific 1st) vs St.Louis Blues (2nd Wild Card)
•Vegas Golden Knights (Pacific 2nd) vs Edmonton Oilers (Pacific 3rd)
●EAST:
•Tampa Bay Lightning (Atlantic 1st) vs Toronto Maple Leafs (1st Wild Card)
•Ottawa Senators (Atlantic 2nd) vs Florida Panthers (Atlantic 3rd)
•Carolina Hurricanes (Metropolitan 1st) vs Montreal Canadiens (2nd Wild Card)
•Washington Capitals (Metropolitan 2nd) vs Columbus Blue Jackets (Metropolitan 3rd)
☆AWAY ONLY:
●WEST:
•Winnipeg Jets (Central 1st) vs Utah Hockey Club (2nd Wild Card)
•Minnesota Wild (Central 2nd) vs Colorado Avalanche (Central 3rd)
•Vegas Golden Knights (Pacific 1st) vs Dallas Stars (1st Wild Card)
•Edmonton Oilers (Pacific 2nd) vs Vancouver Canucks (Pacific 3rd)
●EAST:
•Toronto Maple Leafs (Atlantic 1st) vs Tampa Bay Lightning (1st Wild Card)
•Florida Panthers (Atlantic 2nd) vs Ottawa Senators (Atlantic 3rd)
•Washington Capitals (Metropolitan 1st) vs Montreal Canadiens (2nd Wild Card)
•New Jersey Devils (Metropolitan 2nd) vs New York Rangers (Metropolitan 3rd)😮
Ok, take a breath. Thanks!
In the last 15 seasons, if you only count the seasons with 82 games in the regular season, Florida Panthers in the 2024-25 season became one of the three teams to win the Stanley Cup despite accumulating less than 100 points in the regular season [along with 2011-12 Los Angeles Kings (95 points), 2018-19 St.Louis Blues (99 points)]. These three teams also have one thing in common: finishing 10th or lower of the whole league in the regular season standings.
How does it make sense for the Rangers to 'fix' their locker room by bringing JT Miller in…?
When the team is winning, Miller is great, but should things go south, then I think Miller becomes a problem…
With all the issues SEA had scoring, they still scored 26 more goals than ANA and had the same # of wins, yet everyone has the Ducks being so much better next season. Ok.
Panthers proved again—just get in and grind.
pretty cool season recap, i don't remember seeing one for last season – or the one before. I think I've even been watching for 3+ years now, im not sure lol
Based on upside of how teams fared and where headed. I could see a Montreal vs St. Louis in the Cup Final
I didn’t realize trades in 2026 mimicked trades that happened in 2025 ahah
One takeaway is the President Trophy curse is real. Maybe it is even stronger considering what happened to Boston and the Rangers the year after winning the Trophy. (The Jets should be worried)
I know its not a big name trade, but the Justin Barron for Alex Carrier trade I think is worth mentioning because getting Carrier is what really stabilized Montreal's defense and got them good enough to eventually make the playoffs.
These are nice, because if all goes to plan we should start to see the Flyers move up that board (and other teams, but I don't care about those guys) and whose rebuilds take. Next year's board position for Philly will have them higher since they are not planning on tanking while at least one team in that division is. But the NEXT board should be really interesting.
I loved the season by season playlist last summer. And I appreciate given the view counts plus effort why you’d never do it again. So thanks, THG!
How Hellebuyck can be so incredible and dominating in the regular season and then look like a complete amateur in the playoffs is one of the greatest mysteries of the modern NHL
