This team won't look and feel much different if Rielly is still playing for us. One of the worst values for the contract he has. And, please don't trade for Eric Carlson either, Brad.
They are going to be an interesting hockey club this season. Losing Marner is going to hurt, but I like that they've gone for more depth. They have more toughness in that bottom six, if Joshua can get back to his 15-18 goals per season as he was when healthy, he'll be a good addition, particularly if McMann can score 20 goals again, and Roy filling that crew out, that bottom six is going to be interesting. I am mildly hopeful for the Leafs, good goaltending and defense spells that they are likely a playoff team, it will come down to scoring. They have some wild cards in there, Maccelli could be an interesting pick up.
If Matthews goes down, they will still make the playoffs. If nylander goes down, they will not.
Same story as always with this team, they have to prove it before anyone will believe it.

I dont think barring anything big happens leaf fans will sour on knies, thats all the fan base wants, a wendel clark like power forward.

They will be better without him – unquestionably. It’s not about the uncritical player it’s about the usage of the cap.
They are better overall even if they drop a few points in meaningless regular season games.
“Find enough goals come playoff time” – marner wasn’t helping with that so it’s only up from there.
I feel like some fans don't realize how much of a loss Marner is going to be, at least during the regular season.
Like I said during their playoff exit in which they could be the 2017-18 Capitals if they figure out how to work as a team as a whole instead the core 4 doing all the work. Until then and proven wrong, I still see them doing okay in the regular season and then underperform in the playoffs.
It was NEVER going to work with Marner. How much more proof do people need??? He's an amazing player in the regular season who just had to go. I'm happy with what the leafs have done and I'm excited to see the new additions in action.
‘Entertaining’ is definitely the correct word
On paper The Leafs got worse. But they just had to do something different because it can't be any worse than it's been because we knew that the mix didn't work.
Never cared for Leafs, but now I cheer for them. They deserve an uplift and I'm hoping they will find it through the mental side. It's a team game anyway, not about individuals.
Speaking as a diehard Leafs fan I am sickened by the fact that there were fans doing the despicable things to Marner and his family.. but I think those same fans are going to find out what he provided every game when they miss the playoffs or end up the second wildcard team!!!
I expect them to take a step back but a good deadline could put them right back to contenders.
