Rust is a heart and soul player, despite some injury trouble he is always one of the most consistent producers at a relatively low cap hit. Would be really hard to replace at that value.
Rust could be captain if he is around a year ow two after Sid leaves.

So a player that already has struggles with yearly injuries, will age more gracefully than Rakell, and teach the young players how to win, even though the young players that will help the next generation win is most likely not even drafted yet? And yeah, he's the example they'll follow right? Not like the team has Sidney Crosby or anything.. what a stupid take! This team isnt winning jack in a while, so if the next generation needs vets to learn from, it wont be the vets who are on the team now, it'll be guys brought in, ala Guerin when Sid and the boys won their first cup.

Rust is a great role model for the young guys and still produces. I would have gone for a rust/peterkka trade but that ship has sailed so now it better be for the sj pick or something equivalent.
Absolutely agree! Rust is a ball busting blue collar hockey player! He compliments Sid well. His experience is necessary.
I would like to see rust retire a pen. I get it on why they could trade him. But I would like them to hold onto him. I would like guys like Hayes, acciari, heinen, EK65 and maybe rakell to go. Don't get me wrong, I know that's not going to happen. But I would like rust to be held onto.

Dubas seems to have dollar signs in his eyes. He doesn't know how to trade, period. He will make a huge mistake trading Rust.
