Great player, and sure he wants to win, all the greats want to win…but you know, Leafs would have to build around him, thats going to be difficult, Mathews is not going to like to be superceeded. Everyone knows McD wanted to be a Leaf, and it is unfortunate that he didnt get his wish, i think if he does not sign a extension this coming season then he will be on the move, but i would not say he would head to the Leafs, there are other choices. He is aging now also, so his next action,(whatever it is) is likely his last shot at a cup, and it will his evaluation of a team that can win the determines where his destination will be
I assume he signs before season start. I don’t see him leaving however if he did leave oil land he gave that team everything he had. Two finals in a row is insane.

IF Macdavid leaves he will go to an American affiliated team the league has been set up so a Canadian team will never again win a cup so if he goes to New York Rangers for example they will win the cup its easy to sell hockey in Canada so a Canadian team winning a cup will only matter to Canadians 90% of the NHL represents USA cities there is no money in winning a cup in Canada so a USA city winning makes the most business sense HOCKEY IS NOW A BUSINESS ITS NO LONGER A GAME so the Leafs ever winning another cup again I will believe it only when I see it happen oh you will see another Canadian team in the cup finals but that is all in the interest of the BUSINESS as long as Betmen is running the league the cup remains in USA cities

No Canadian team has won the cup in over 30 years no way he will sign with any Canadian team. The NHL is sketchy regarding that. If he wants to win he will have to sign in the US market. If the miracle ever did occur, he would want 3 to 5 million more than Matthews AAV.. and well deserved, as he has proven to be able to elevate his game in the playoffs.
If he did ever leave, he would choose a tax favorable market like Florida or Vegas.
